Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 to Elizabeth Allan Poe and David Poe, Jr., a Scotch-Irish family in Boston, Massachusetts. Edger was an American artist, short story author, manager and commentator and one of the pioneers of the American Romantics. He is best known for his stories of the grotesque and his ballads, and being one of the early specialists of the short story and a forebear of investigator fiction, and wrongdoing fiction in the United States. Edgar parents and grandfather was well known. His father, David was an on-screen actor. Critics consider David Poe to be a second class actor. He often experience stage fright that was frown upon amongst critics. John Poe left the stage and his family in 1810 during hard times. He was an alcoholic with a bad tempered. He died December 11, 1811. Elizabeth on the other hand was considered to be a great actor and songstress. She started acting at the young age of nine and had over 300 roles. Critics described her as beautiful and talented. She was left to raise her two sons alone when David her husband abandons her. She became ill and died with tuberculosis on December 9, 1811 only three days before her estranged husband. Due to the death of both parents Edgar, only two years old and his two siblings were now orphans. Unfortunately the children were split up and sent to different locations.
