Dr Pepper: The American Culture

Dr Pepper is one of the oldest soft drinks in the world. It is made from 23 different flavors. From its invention and naming to its problem with distribution, Dr Pepper has become part of the American culture.

In 1885, at a drug store in Waco, Texas, Charles Alderton, a pharmacist, invented Dr Pepper. At the time, most drinks were standard fruit flavors. “Alderton mixed and matched flavorings until he had created a unique drink that customers loved” (Ward, 2015, para. 2). He did not give it a name.

By now the customers had created a name, and the regulars called it “a Waco” (Ward, 2015, para 3), but that name would not stick. According to Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPSG), Dr Pepper may have been named by the owner of the drug store for someone he knew (Our History, 2015). He may have named it for a …show more content…

There are also diet, 10 calorie, cherry, and real sugar formulas. The drink that started in a drug store in Waco is now all over the US and part of the world. Schulz shows that Dr Pepper’s share of the soda ranks it 5th with 6.8 CSD shares (2015). Not bad for a drink that started with no name. References
