The amount of math courses that are needed to get a degree in cosmetology all depends on the state. Some states only require a few hours while other states may require a few days, weeks or even months of courses. We use a couple different types of math. Geometry and trigonometry are used to determine how a haircut will look with certain hair lengths, the growth pattern of a client’s hair, and the hairs density and elasticity. Geometry is also used to determine the interaction of color and light with different skin tones. Basic math skills are required if you want to run your own business. Even if you don’t run a business, while working for someone else, you need to determine how many clients you need to see per day to make a sufficient living.

Before I graduated from high school, I devised a five year plan for myself. First, I would attend SUNY Albany to obtain a degree in business. Then, I would attend a cosmetology school, acquire the 1,000 hours needed to take my state board exams, take those exams to finally secure my cosmetology license. All of this would eventually lead to opening my own salon in the future. About a month before my graduation, an ambulance bolted my mom to the hospital.

Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatment. Branches of specialty includes hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures. And a Fine Artists are artists that include painters, sculptors, and illustrators. In fine arts I would be doing painting/ body painting. For schooling I would love to go to University of Arizona or Eastern Arizona Collage. I have wanted to go to U of Arizona since I was 10. Eastern Arizona Collage offers the cosmetology class I need and University of Arizona has the Fine arts class I need. A lot of people have an interest in arts or something of the field. But the whole arts, makeup, and hair has been my escape from reality when ever I'm having a hard time at school or even in life. I've been doing (cutting and coloring) my own hair and doing my own makeup for 4 years. I have done other peoples hair and makeup before and gotten nothing but positive feed back. School will cost money so, I am going to be applying for scholarships.
In Cosmetology school, the students will learn many things. Most schools start out in the classroom for four to eight weeks. In the classroom, everyone typically learns the state law first. After that students will learn sanitation rules and procedures. He or she then moves on to the history of Cosmetology. After that, students learn the basics and fundamentals of cutting, coloring, chemical services, styling, nails, skin, and waxing. Some things that vary from school to school are the color systems that are used like Matrix, Redkin, or Paul Mitchell. After one completes everything, and his or her instructor feels like they are ready, most schools then put their students out on the clinic floor and some classroom time. Some things that also vary are the teaching styles and different techniques that are taught through the books such as Milady. Many schools then have a class for people to take their last couple of weeks to practice for their state exam. This gives hands-on experience and time to go more in depth. Every state has different requirements on the hours one needs. State requirements for hours range from 1,000 hours to 2,100 hours.
