Definition Of Success

So many people today are still in this error of what success is. Having a lot of money, houses, cars, etc, is a good thing but it is just an aspect of success. You can have all the above mentioned items and more but you are not close to being successful. On the other side, you may not even have a dime in your bank account and yet you are successful.

There are many different understandings of what success is. Some relate success to money, others relate success to happiness, but it all depends on the type of person.

What is success? Is success something that you can eat? Is it a physical object you can touch or a psychological feeling in the mind? Success is characterized differently by various people. For some people it means wealth. Others it means happiness. To me, success means making sure my family is living a healthy happy life. It means making valuable life decisions and having a feeling of belonging. Success is not only about helping yourself reach full potential. It is about bringing others along and giving them the opportunity to excel together in life.

Success involves giving back to those who may not be able to help themselves. In the eyes of the church, it’s pretty much doing God’s work. You’re helping your brother’s, and your sister’s get on their feet and in doing so, you will reach success. Success has nothing to do with money, fame, popularity, and achievements, but it has everything to do with giving back. I try my best to always help those around me, even when they don’t want to help themselves. The way most people in America view success has everything to do with negative intentions. I wish there was some way we could make it clear how success should be measured.

In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you’ve accumulated. I find that the older I grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most successful. Rich, poor or in between, they’ve tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination. They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn’t afford it, they ordered the $55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start-up company, moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is practiced, things won’t spin out of control.

There many ways to view success. Everyone has an ultimate goal in life, whether it’s to be the wealthiest person alive, or to just live a healthy life. But sometimes wealth can’t just be your greatest goal in life. You have to keep searching for new goals, and keep pushing to be more successful. My definition of success is to work hard so you can live the life you truly want and deserve, so you can fulfil your satisfaction with loved ones without ever saying the words “I Give up”. You can have everything you see on television, but you can’t have it without putting the work in. Everyone measures success as money and power, but there’s many rich people in this world that are not truly happy. Money, cars, clothes doesn’t mean anything after you buy it. You can have a successful job, but those you surround yourself with makes your life even better; They’re one of the main reasons why your happy. What’s the point of having everything if you cant share it with the ones that are there for you. Legendary basketball coach John wooden once said

The matter of considerable controversy at present is the definition of success by different category of people. With a significant amount of people claiming that the real success is the professional and economical success. In this context, my view is contradictory to the aforementioned statement.

Success is one of those words that does not have a uniform definition that can apply to every circumstance. Success can mean plenty of things; to someone who started out with nothing and gained little, they would see themselves as successful. On the other hand, someone who started off with plenty can have a different idea of success from the person who started with nothing. I am one of those people who started off with nothing; my parents and I immigrated to the United States from Nigeria and to my family back in Nigeria, I am very successful. Yet I see myself doing much more; my definition of success may change over time, but there is one thing that I expect to have in all my ideas of success: Being so successful that your success rubs off on other people who need it.

As an eighteen year old, the term of success has been used in many different contexts. Although, we tend to define success as a person who has made millions or someone who has broken down barriers for the next generation, however, have we been leaving out the most important part of success? Does being successful guarantee your happiness? Does it replace those lonely nights? Does success replace those sleepless nights? Does it replace the friends you have lost along your path? In my opinion, it does not. Success cannot be determined merely based off of comparisons with another person. In fact, I am a firm believer in do what makes you happy because everyone else is temporary in our lives. My definition of success is based on self happiness because if you cannot be happy with yourself how can you bless others?

To me, success is a very personal and subjective thing and it cannot be measured by any other person. To one person, success may be all the money in the world, enough so he or she can bathe in it every night. Or, the person could want money so he or she can donate it to charity and help others. But, from the outside, the charitable person may look just as bad as the person of greed, people thinking both have fallen prey to their own desires. Both people consider themselves successes but both are considered failures by the outside eye. To me, there is no way of knowing how someone else thinks or what they are thinking. It is a childish whim to think someone can know what someone else believes, because lies exist. To everyone success is different, and to me, there is no way of knowing if someone else is successful, and if so, how? That is why I find no one

Success for me means live the life you’ve always wanted. Accomplish all your goals and being happy. If you are not happy you are not successful.

My answer always consists of two words; fulfilled purpose! A person’s success cannot be measured by anything or anyone outside of that. The way you can determine if a person, place or thing is successful, is to consider whether or not he, she or it has fulfilled the purpose for which they were created. A refrigerator is successful if it keeps food fresh during its expected life span, a piano is successful when it’s played, a heart is successful when it beats, and the list goes on. So I want you to understand that your success is not based on how far you go across the world, how many people you impact, how much money you make, or how popular you become. Your success is determined by whether or not you fulfilled your purpose in its fullness. It is very important we understand this, because if we attempt to measure success by any other means, we will either come up short of believing we are successful, or stop ourselves short because we have wrongly measured. If God created you to sing, write, play the guitar, and be a doctor, you aren’t successful because you become a rock start and sell a million albums. You are successful when you become a faithful steward and do what God created you to

What does it mean to be truly successful? Is it to try something you have never done before? Does it mean to earn millions of dollars? I believe success comes down to three things: doing what you love, doing what your good at, and making the world a better place because of it. If you do these three things, you will accomplish a happy, healthy, and successful life.
