The abuse was both mentally and physically, because he was so angry that Deborah Lilly’s mom abandoned him. Most people say that words don’t hurt which can be true in some cases but what was different in Lilly’s case was that “T. Ray,” her father wouldn’t talk to her at all and didn't show Lilly any love, it was all anger. Another reason why i admire Lilly is because she didn't see color nor race, in her eyes everybody was equal the white weren’t superior nor were the black inferior in her eyes. She saw people for who they were on the inside. She grew up in a very racist town the colored were seen as weak and inferior but she didn’t care about their color. When she ran away from her father T. Ray to go find out more about her mom. She was living with black people which must of been tough, having to deal with all the hatred and criticism got for living with colored people. She didn’t care about all that because she wasn’t racist and the black colored girls she was living with were very kind to her, except June. She was a little mean and suspicious because she was white and June had thought Lilly was going to be racist but the more she gotta know Lilly the less she hated her, and they ended up being good friends.
