America is greatly influenced and enhanced by the many versatile cultures which inhabit it. Cultural diversity has added to our economy in such a way that it brings innovated ideas and contact structures throughout the world. International cuisines have come to America through subcultures, have expanded the food industry, and have allowed English Americans to try new foods and flavors. Immigrants have brought with them religious values that greatly differ and vary from those at which were natural in the main stream American culture. The educational development through foreign nationals has led America, as a nation, to excel and be deemed one of the most intelligent nations in the world! Foreign nationals bring with them the tastes and delights from their own country. Presently, Americans have such a wide selection of foods to choose from including but not limited to Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Thai, and Japanese. In the agricultural industry, researchers have taken domestic plants and bred them with international plants to create a more desirable embryonic plant which grows to have only the best characteristics of the two plants. This idealistic technology wouldn't have been deemed possible if it wasn't subject to the vast array of cultural diversity to challenge the standard characteristics of domestic vegetations. Along with any nation in the world, comes a variety of religions. The English founded this nation on Christianity; however, numerous people today denounce this monotheistic belief and instead have put their faith in beliefs brought to this country by foreigners. This assorted variety allows believers to choose a religion which better suits their beliefs and practices, and gives individuals a choice on spiritual fulfillment in their lives. These religious beliefs combined with the democratic state of the nation have led to public displays of religious celebration in America. Ramadan, Yom Kippur, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Cinco de Mayo, and Hanukkah have been a few of the celebrations brought to America via immigrants. Some of the most celebrated and famous revels include St. Patrick's Day and Mardi Gras (see Figure 1 and
Ask any American how they feel about multiculturalism you are likely to get one of two responses: either a cringe or a smile. Those that cringe will say something along the line of “Multiculturalism is the wrong way to look at things. It separates us by saying that everyone is different instead of saying that we are the same and unifying us.” Those that smile will talk about how great multiculturalism is because they get to see aspects of all different cultures on television and on the radio and they are free to explore all the different things that various cultures have to offer. In actuality, one cannot help but wonder if either of these responses reflects the true meaning of multiculturalism? What do
The United States for years has been a country full of opportunities. As of the freedoms, the United States is a country full of many different types of people with their own cultures and different views of life. A reason for this is that, the United States is promoted as an interwoven country. The United States is the land of opportunities, but it can also be abundant in diversity and exclude others because of their culture or just the fact that people are not the same skin color. The color of one’s skin can also predict what opportunities people have in life. The United States may have a pluralistic society, but it can also be the greatest diverse country. Everyone in the United States no matter which race wants to achieve the American Dream
I believe it is important to understand our Diverse America so that we can make the correct political decisions that brings everyone's opinions into thought. We need to also be able to respect each other’s cultures, and ethnicity. Some discrimination could be due to the fact that we just don’t understand the people, and are quite scared of them, just because they are different to what we are used to seeing. Exposing ourselves to different types of people lets us be more comfortable in our own country. Everyone should be able to feel comfortable with everyone else, not being aware of their background shouldn’t be a
What are things Americans do to show that they are American? Wearing American flag shirts? Join the army? Have a flag in your yard? One thing all Americans have in common is diversity. Having diversity causes us to all work together and form a bond and treat everyone as you would like to be treated. We also have our freedom in common. We all have the rights of speech, religion, press, etc. so that everyone can define who they are and who we will become. Everyone has different ideas as to what being jordan belfort an American means, but to me it means that we have individuality, that we can be an opportunist, and that we take pride in our country.
In the United States, we are going through a tough transition period. We are moving on from old energy to new energy and from conservative traditions to new ones. It is good to know that many in the country acknowledge the times with a belief of an inclusive America. In the same fashion, some celebrities speak out about racial issues that continue to divide out country as they fight for equality for all races. Our country is there yet, but individuals with huge platforms who use it to speak in favor of diversity, it can help our country get to that point. An influential figure can convince countless people to become more accepting of the changing country that becomes better for all Americans.

“Reports show that nearly 50% of Americans under 18 are minorities. The trend projects a reversal in the population where by 2030, the majority of people under 18 will be of color and by 2042, nonwhites will be the majority of the population.” America’s growth and projected increase of population diversity can be contributed to the fact that America is moving toward a new standard in which diversity and individuality are encouraged. People may feel that America is trapped in a box of conformity and uniformity; however, America has stepped outside this box and embraces diversity because we have been assimilating over time and America notices and embraces it.
My artwork focuses on the diversity of America. I illustrated the different features of ethnicities and the insight of what those specific ethnicities believe how they contributed to the American identity. Although there are many ethnicities in America, I chose the race I displayed, due to direct contact with someone from one to three ethnicities. From the colors to the symbolism of each ethnicity, I wanted to show what each ethnicity was, without the audience asking what it actually was. My belief of what it means to be an American ties in with my ideas of diversity. I believe to be a true American, it would a person who displays the courage to fight through the ethnic stereotypes to create a better place for the future generation. Through
“Diversity is about all of us, and about us having to figure out how to walk through this world together.” (BrainyQuotes) America is called the melting pot for our variety of people that have melted together to become the great nation that the world knows. America’s society has been influenced by ethnic diversity from the foods that people eat, the clothes one wears, and the languages heard everyday.
What is different about the way of life in Montana compared to Washington, DC or your country? Why?
I was very young when I had my first encounter with cultural diversity. At the time I thought I was the only person that had experienced things like this. When I was five years old my family, father, mother, and sister moved from Illinois to California. This didn’t really mean much to me at the time I didn’t remember much about being in Illinois. The first thing I did remember was that it wasn’t cold here. Next was the house it was big. After a couple days there I was enrolled in school, this was the early 60’s East Los Angeles. The school like my neighborhood was all Black/Negro. I felt comfortable. After three months we moved to West Los Angeles. Here was where things would start to change. First my neighborhood, on a block of thirty
Reasoning behind that is most countries have one religion or god that everyone in the country most worship or adhere too. The United States, on the other hand, allows people to adopt any religion that you would like to practice. Many people practice many different religions such as; Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and many more. Continuing then many of the religions have many different denominations; such as the denominations for Christianity (Catholics, Orthodox, Lutherans, Angelicans, Baptists,
The third and fourth I interviewed are a couple I know since I came to the states. They are both white and from well-educated families. Both their fathers were college professors and mothers were homemakers. We share many interests, including social justice issues and music. They are both international travelers and have visited many countries. Unlike my coworker who enjoys the cruise and Disney world vacations, they usually choose hiking in the country side and get to know the local people and culture. These trips have offered multicultural education to them and shaped their viewpoints in many ways. They read extensively and have deep understanding of issues of culture, class, and gender. I have enjoyed many conversations with them. The

The business world has many different aspects when looking at it. Everyone is trying to see how they can improve their business, or get it to be the best it can be. Many people have tried many different theories and checked what works and what does not. One of the most debated subjects is the effects of diversity in the work place and if it benefits the work place. People have also looked if having more multicultural employees in your business help the business out, or does it worsen the business by bringing in more conflict in the work environment. After careful research, it is shown that all though there are many draw backs, multicultural diversity does indeed help out a work force more than it has negatives.
