To be qualified as an law enforcement professional you have to graduate high school or have an GED (Fears, 2008). There are two types of law enforcement professionals and they are police and detectives (Fears, 2008). Police officers protect lives and property (Fears, 2008). Detectives and criminal investigators gather facts and collect evidence of possible crimes (Fears, 2008). The annual salary for police and detectives is $56,980. Law enforcement professionals know it is important to establish what ethics and ethical behavior are, and what they aren’t (Fears, 2008). Value means the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something (Fears, 2008). Anything with value is worth fighting for as well as sacrificing for (Fears, 2008). Values positively influences decision making. Personal values are formed by our upbringing. For example, cultural and ethnic background, religious beliefs and personal experiences form personal values (Wright, 2012). Societal values are ideals that are held by a culture or group (Fears, 2008). Understanding and expectation of ethics and ethical behavior is part of societal values (Fears, 2008).
