I have chosen cosmetology as my research career. This career particularly interest me because it is something I would like to do with my life. I feel this career is filled with opportunities that can be very beneficial to me financially and emotionally. One specific goal I have in my life is to one day open my own salon.

Going through cosmetology school gave you the expertise you need to cut and style hair. People come to you because you make them look and feel their best. Before I graduated from high school, I devised a five year plan for myself. First, I would attend SUNY Albany to obtain a degree in business. Many people wonder what is needed to become that successful good paid cosmetologist. Society sometimes think men are not suited for a cosmetology career; little do they know that is not true. A man who was not ashamed of the job which they called a woman’s job would be Paul Mitchell. In the cosmetology industry what is mainly needed is patience, which would be the best skill for this career. Cosmetologists do not only handle hair, but many more parts of the body. A career in cosmetology is based on professional skill or practice of beautifying the face, skin, and hair; therefore one needs to know the safety requirements in using many different chemicals, job description, salary, and benefits to work in this career.

Salons need to stay current on the new trends and style within the hair industry and a local cosmetology school can help with that. Keeping a current relationship with the local school can help with the technicians learning new techniques from the local school. Most schools hold training classes and continued education courses for current stylist. The school may contact the salon and make them aware of upcoming courses and the manager will relay the messages to the current techs at the salon. Or the Salon and Spa owners will set up training courses to be taking at the salon.

The Elkhart Area Career Center cosmetology class is a loud, crazy, girly group. They are all about makeup, hair, and YouTube. Mrs. Teagarden, the instructor is a medium eight, silver-white haired lady. The salon lab is an L shape room with fluorescent lights, walks half cream half green. Constant water running in the shampoo bowls, minty fresh tea-tree shampoo, and the buzz of a blow-dryer. U93 playing the same ten songs on repeat all four hours your there. That’s the cosmetology salon.

I have to have these requirements to go to and graduate from cosmetology school; hair texturizing, hair cutting, hair styling, skin care, nail art, business training, and retail development. Sanitation and safety are a very big part in the training of becoming a cosmetologist in Tennessee. I must have 1500 hours of training before I can take the written or physical exams. After I get my cosmetology license and graduate, I as a cosmetologist should be equipped to do any in the body, hair, and nail treatment. Beauty tends to increase the self esteem of women, they think more positive of themselves. Along with that like anything else cosmetology has revolutionized throughout the years. Cosmetology has played an important role in lives of women, it does not only represent beauty, but also self confidence.

The job of a hairstylist is to create, develop, and enhance client’s personal appearance. However, it is not all about beauty, you have to be able to interact good with the costumers. This year in English we read the Salon Success book. This book is helpful but very bland. The book is about how to improve our communication skills as a stylist. Each chapter of the book explains a specific focal point to improve on in our profession. It also gives examples on how to better communicate with clients, co-workers, and build clientele as you further your career. The Salon Success book doesn't only focus on improving your career skills, but your well being such as, managing stress, coping skills, and respect. The lessons in this book can help with your life choices in a business setting as well as outside of the professional industry.

My chemistry term paper is about the science involved in cosmetics. Cosmetology is the professional skill of beautifying the face, hair and nails, other things that Cosmetology includes is face washes, tattoos, henna tattoos, deodorant and antiperspirant, sunscreen, lotions and moisturizers, and towelettes. The chemistry involved with these almost everyday products is astounding, the ancient ingredients that they used that are now banned and obsolete, either being too poisonous or the product was replaced with something more healthy and safer to the environment or the skin. Make-up has improved steadily over the years with all the medical and chemical research over the years, from organic and skin sensitive products, to overnight treatments that you could buy at the drug store.
