Compare and Contrast: Art to Food The boundaries of art and food are being pushed each day. As boundaries are pushed, the line between food and art becomes smaller, almost non-existent. Existence is a construct made by man, just as the creations of food and art. In the twenty-first century, nothing is positive and everything is arbitrary. People are less worried with how everything looks, but more concerned with the emotional impact they receive. Art is food and food is art. Webster’s dictionary defines art as “the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects”. In actuality, anything can be considered art when an artistic mind is perceiving it. Like all sectors of culture, art has …show more content…
“Ancient Roman wedding ceremonies were finalized by breaking a cake of wheat or barley (mustaceum) over the bride’s head as a symbol of good fortune. The newly married couple then ate a few crumbs in a custom known as confarreatio—eating together. Afterwards, the wedding guests gathered up the crumbs as tokens of good luck.” (Gastronomica). The human race has come a long way from breaking dry cake over the bride’s head. In modern times, cakes have become an extravagant focal point at every wedding, having their own trends that come and pass with each year. Cake-culture is at an all time high in the twenty-first century and with this popularity comes a demand for more unique cakes. To fill this demand, cake decorators pull inspiration from various movements, including art deco. Over seventy years after the conclusion of the art deco movement, cake decorators all over the world are pulling inspiration from it to elevate the design of their products. Traditional cakes consist of flowing, symmetrical lines and borders. Traditional cake design is the simplest to execute. This design is not quite elegant and not quite casual, giving it a functional purpose for consumers on a budget. Past this tier of cake decorating brings on the realm of wedding cakes or specialty cakes. With this new level of work, cake decorators execute more complicated designs for a higher payout. One such design is inspired by art deco, shown in the photo above.
The definition of art is notoriously difficult and is a field of philosophical inquiry as such. The meaning of the word "art" are multiple, sediment and cross each other in the language. Missing uses of the word are present in expressions and help to make the subject more that difficult. However, according to my studies, art is an expression, a symbolic way to communicate. Its key is to make something subject or scientific, for instance: an object that went through certain modification would be consider an art. We have a different type of arts but I will only be focusing on this tree types: prehistoric art, art of the ancient near east and art of ancient Egypt.
Defining art has always been a contentious question that didn’t get a particular answer. Based on the definitions found in Oxford dictionary online, “Art is any inspired activity produced by human’ imaginations and their inventive skills” (Oxford Dictionary). I did choose the song “Imagine” by the British singer John Lennon as a piece of art to be analyzed. According to The Internet Movie Database (IMDb), “John Lennon was an English singer and songwriter born and raised in Liverpool on 1940 and mysteriously murdered
Art-(noun)- the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
What classifies something as art? According to the Webster Dictionary, art is defined as “the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects”. Art has been around since the dawn of history, seen etched into cave walls and slowly evolved into what we see around us today. All cultures use art in many forms such as paintings, dance, sculptures, music for many different reasons. In the video titled 'Pootie done did it again.' Pootie Tang records a new song titled “ “ which is then broadcasted on the radio. The song, which is just recorded silence, raises the question of if this silence can be considered art. The purpose of this essay is to support the idea that Pootie Tang's “ “ is unlikely
Art, by definition, is works created by artists: paintings, sculptures, etc., that are created to be beautiful or to express important ideas or feelings (Merriam-Webster).
What is art? If you were to ask this question to passersby, many would rattle off answers such as: paintings, sculptures, musical pieces, maybe even dance, or stage acting. Few would list off works of literature as an art form, but I wholeheartedly believe that writing belongs in this group. Art is created to elicit a response from its viewers; to express its creator’s thoughts and feelings. Is not penning down creative imagination for the purpose of invoking consideration or appreciation, art?
Art is an object or piece of work that brings one pleasure. Art is also something you see or feel and you cannot even begin to describe the ways you like it or how it makes you feel. Art is something that portrays beauty and happiness. Art lets you see the world through another person’s perspective. Most art seems to tell a story about where a person has been and the things they have encountered along the way. It lets you connect with the artist and see things through their eyes. Art is a way of expressing one’s self without words. When I think of art, I think of paintings, portraits, sketches, and sculptures.
Art is all around us. There are many different forms of art. It can be something created, captured, or it can be already existent. Not a single person is to say what makes something art because there is a different definition for everyone. However, there are a couple factors that come into mind whenever someone decides to declare something as art. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting four different pieces of art. I will be discussing each art piece’s form, time period of creation, intention or purpose, and value. These four pieces of art are Michelangelo’s Pieta, Fountain by Marcel Duchamp, Mark Rothko’s No.61, and the “Oyster Dress” by Alexander McQueen. These works of art come in all different shapes and sizes but they are valued
Art can have several meanings which complicate this claim. Art can be considered “work that is produced by human creative skill and imagination”. This definition of art does not fit with what the passage is trying to achieve. Therefore it is likely that in this context, the author is referring to “art” as a skill at doing a specified thing, typically one acquired through practice.
Debate over the definition of art has developed for hundreds, if not thousands of years. People have spent millions of dollars and given years of their lives to the craft called art. However, there has not been an agreement on what the definition of art is because it tends to be a very vague concept incorporating many cultures and ideas. It has proven itself to be an effective tool in the human expression over the years preserving deep and personal feelings along with history. Art can be defined as the creation of beauty through expression with skillful use of creativity, design, and manipulation of the viewers’ emotions.
Art, what is Art? It is an ambiguous matter: without an exact form, an exact meaning. Does it have any rules or restrictions? However, it can be a great influence on the lives of people. In the novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, two lovers have fell in and out of love due to Art!
Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary[1][1] defines art as “the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects; also, works so produced.” This definition is inclusive of most forms of art. Unfortunately, art goes far beyond this limiting sentence. Art can be thoughts, aesthetic creations, musical compositions, or choreography. Art can be seen, heard, and/or felt. Art is concrete and abstract, at the same time. Art is expression and emotion. Art is anything.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; (so they say) and this is true for either cake/decorating choice. If the cake is store bought it should look presentable (be easy on the eyes) and if it does not look nice get your money back. When making decorations for a cake take breaks when needed. So stress does not take over the fun. Also we should try not to be so hard on ourselves if something we are making does not turn out right. It is
