As of 2015, the estimated population of Pasadena was 140,881, making it the 183rd largest city in the United States (City Data, 2015). Pasadena is the ninth-largest city in Los Angeles County. Pasadena is home to the famous Rose Bowl and The Tournament of Roses parade of flowers. The word Pasadena literally means "valley" in the Ojibwa (Chippewa) Indian language, but it has been interpreted to mean "Crown of the Valley" (City Data, 2015). The Rose Bowl

This percentage may add to more than 100% due to persons identifying to more than one race (U.S. Census Bureau, 2014). The median age in Pasadena is 36.9 years (U.S. Census Bureau, 2014). The primary language spoken in Pasadena is English, which 86% of the population is a high school graduate and 49% of those have obtained a bachelors degree or higher education (City Data, 2014).
Using my previous fieldwork and the Windshield Survey, I was able to drive around the city of Pasadena observing local patrons. I was able to focus my desire for improvements on specific areas I thought would be appropriate and want to focus on specifically for my community health topic. Due to the large amount of people in the city, I was able to go to local parks, outdoor malls and various busy streets. Using questions addressed from the Windshield Survey, I was able to delineate whether the city is primarily rural or suburban. Approximately how much open space is there and whether it is open space or private? Pasadena is a suburban city and has over 7 million square feet of open space (City Data, 2015). The survey also asks how old the buildings and homes are in the community? Are these homes similar or different in structure and architecture? Are there solar panels in use? Are the yards trimmed and neat or overgrown? I used the city 's
The city of Los Angeles is not a unified city. Los Angeles consists of too many large sub cities or communities to speak with one voice. There are many sub cities in LA such as the Westside, Hollywood, the Valley, Downtown, and of course, South Central. To make things more difficult, many of these sub cities themselves are not unified. Due to their size, all

The Pasadena architect presented his plan at a West Pasadena Residents’ Association meeting. It included a mixture of single family housing on the southern end of the 50-acre segement in Pasadena with more dense housing closer to the 210 Freeway. Of course, businesses would be incorporated throughout the neighborhood, as well. The design is being compared to Old Town Pasadena.
The community Faces many challenges with the absence of many stores, fast food and non perishable food are the most accessible food in the community which is one of the contributing health factors to many health problem the community is facing today. The community is in need of more awereness that could evolve from being obese. It is essential for the public nurse to assess the population needs and their readiness to accept changes that might affect their daily life in a positive way. The nurse will need to encourage the population to engage in decision making regarding their community, and facilitate opportunities for them to get access to appropriate resources.
California is home to seven of the fifty largest cities in the U.S. by population and rank. Of these seven, I will discuss one of my favorite cities in the world San Francisco, California. San Francisco is the thirteenth largest city in the U.S. but only coming in as the fourth largest in California after Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose. As of July 2014 the population estimate was a little over 850,000 for San Francisco. (Infoplease) San Francisco is a city rich in history, lust and disaster most of which is detailed below.
It is funny that one have never been to public meeting in his or her own country, but instead went to one in the United State. The City Hall building stand out by itself given the historical look to it. It was busy as it was regular business day, people come in and out by seconds. There are also lots of public service buildings surrounded the City Hall, such as fire department, police station, city library, Hall of Justice, Los Angeles Historical Monument and much more. It was surprisingly interesting to observe public service buildings’ structure and their location. All the services are not far from the area, which resemble a spider web is some way. There were also a huge park behind the City Hall which gives plenty of open space to held different kinds of activities. Los Angeles in general is a much denser city compared to cities in state of Arizona.
Brown County is located in Northeast Wisconsin and is the state’s fourth largest county. The county consists of thirteen townships, nine villages, and two cities including Green Bay, the largest city and home of the Green Bay Packers. Brown County covers 530 square miles of land and 86 square miles of water (Brown County, n.d.). Green Bay is well-known, nation-wide on behalf of four large paper mills, three large pulp mills and four paper converting companies as well as the largest cheese manufacturer, driving the work force (Brown County, n.d.). The population of Brown County is 256, 000, majority Caucasian (U.S. Census Bureau, 2015).
Los Angeles, a metropolis based in southern California, is known for its ethnically diverse population and known for being home to the entertainment industry. San Fernando Valley is a young community still growing, surrounded by the Transverse Mountain Range just north of Los Angeles. This mountain terrain is comprised of 5 collective cities; Burbank, Glendale, San Fernando, Calabasas, and Hidden Hills. Each of these cities shares qualities for a Californian lifestyle for first time home owners, and influential residents within the entertainment industry.
Los Angeles is situated in the south of state of California, USA. It enjoys significant portion of eminence when rated in the population calculation and census. It is the most populous city of California and second most populous city of USA. United States Census Bureau (2012) displays the statistics of Los Angeles at its official website. Pasadena is located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. It is 11 miles northeast of Los Angeles, east of Glendale and north of Alhambra. Pasadena is now famous for the Tournament of Roses and the Rose Bowl. Pasadena was founded in 1874 by the farmers from the Indiana Colony. It was the home to the Native Americans. Therefore, using a Native American word was good to describe the area. The word Pasadena was chosen for Chippewa Indian word meaning of “Crown of the Valley”.
I am dreading many things about this Nursing Theory and Research course. Writing is very time consuming. I struggle with being clear and concise in my writing, therefore it usually takes me longer than the average person to write a short essay or long paper. I have to put in a lot of thought into the best way to convey my thoughts, doing so in a grammatically correct way. I also do not understand why this course is required in The School of Nursing. The nursing profession is a hands on profession that requires caring for patients in person with emphasis on communication. Due to this fact, I do not feel it is beneficial to require nursing students to research and write an extensive paper about a nursing topic. I feel an in persons course would be a more valuable learning experience.
A critique is a detailed analysis and assessment of something. It is important to critique a research paper because publication does not mean quality. The title ‘the image of community nursing: implications for future student nurse recruitment’ (Norman, 2015) efficiently outlined the main context of the research paper which is the perception that young people have on Nursing as a career, this is mentioned in the introduction at the beginning of the paper as well as in the title, which displays to the reader straight away the topic of the paper its self. However, it did not state in the title that the perception is based on that of younger people. The second part of the title states that the research is surrounding what implication the perception will have on future student nurses and the ability to recruit them. Within the research paper it includes the mention that there is the issue of the fact that young people are not pursuing careers in nursing due to the perception surrounding it which is that nursing is valued as a lower skilled job below that of a doctor and that you do not need many qualifications to become a nurse. This stigma is implicating the recruitment of student nurses due to the mass decrease in students training in this field. The information is clearly highlighted in the title in bold across the top of the paper, which includes the key topic of the paper. The title is therefore appropriate in regards to the subject studied.
