College Vs. High School

There is a big difference between high school and college from having bells to a no dress policy. For high school students, they are obligated to go, and if they don’t attend then the government comes into play. As for college, it 's a choice to go back to school. Students in college have variety of classes to choose from and freedom,etc. This could be freedom from parents or just doing whatever you want without parents barking at you, because you are now an adult. Even though I have been in college for only a semester, I would say that I enjoy college more than high school due to personal reason,and to pros and cons, of the different schools.

High school, for many, is commonly termed as “the greatest four years of your life.” It is stopping for coffee with your friends while listening to your favorite songs on the way to school in the morning. It is staring at the clock waiting for the bell to ring to finally go to your favorite class of the day. It is staying after a long day of class for meetings, clubs, or sports, or it is spending Friday nights with your best friends performing under the football field lights. High school can be many different experiences for different people, but most importantly, for me, it was learning essential values of life while shaping me into the person that I am today.

In high school there are many drawbacks compared to college. However, there are some advantages. For example, homework was something that could be done the night before, or even the class before it was due. The “take home” work that was given was very simple and students did not need much time to complete it. Most of the time, homework was the work that the student was not able to finish in class. Another advantage in high school, is always being reminded of what you need to complete. The teachers are always there to let you know that something is going to be due soon. Having the same set schedule can be fun, because everybody switches classes and has lunch at the same, so you are always able to see and communicate with your friends. Also, high school classes, books, and lunch are all free or have a very small cost.

The transition from high school to college is a dynamic time in one’s life that parallels the change from childhood to adulthood. Both of these changes are dramatic and, as a result, feelings are difficult to put down into words. A messy combination of emotions fills the heart, surfacing in strange ways. Confident high school seniors go right back to the bottom of the chain when entering college as freshmen. These students start all over, just like entering grade school or high school for the first time. The move up from high school to college signals the switch from dependence to self-sufficiency. From a personal point of view, going through the experience of graduating high school and transferring to a residential college campus at STLCOP, made me realize I was no longer a kid and capable of making my own decisions.

High School is a time when many teenagers get into trouble and have many conflicts and struggles. Without all of the struggles, high school is supposed to be four terrific years. There are many struggles for teens like peer pressure, managing your time, fitting in, and many more. Most high schoolers will get pressured by their peers at some point and can cause some serious problems. About fifty-five percent of students play a high school sport on top of having a job, keeping your grades up, and just overall having fun, which can be very hard to do. At some point in the life of a high school student, community college becomes an option when applying to colleges. In some cases for those looking to further their education past high school it is still an option, even to students who are already in college. However, not everyone is able to see the benefits of attending a community college. Somehow in the past millennia, community college somehow gained the reputation of being a punishment for things such as having bad grades in high school, sometimes due to things the student can’t control. College life is an exciting time for young adults coming out of high school. The students find themselves with so many new experiences to face; many of these changes, from new found freedom to the unexpected responsibilities, are frequently underestimated by the newly promoted freshman.

In the American schooling system, children begin primary school around the age of six, this is called elementary school and most students stay there for five to six years before they go on to secondary school which involves middle school and high school. After graduating high school some students may go on to “higher education” known as college, but any schooling done after high school is no longer mandatory.

With the switch from high school to college, students will be changed for the better or worse. Hansen, a retired professor, explains that college does not need to be complex as most make it out to be. Many kids drop out of college early due to their participation in the party scene. Students who are dedicated to their education receive the true college experience. Entering high school is the beginning of a whole new learning experience. Transitioning from middle school, high school presents more classes, students, and a bigger campus. It brings new expectations and responsibilities to each of us. High school also offers fresh chances to make new friends, try new sports and activities, and really explore who we are as individuals. The goal is to maintain good grades, score high on the SAT test, and keep a positive attitude so colleges and universities will accept you. Of course it's not as easy at sounds, but it's achievable. High school is an experiment to prepare young people for the adult world. Having to come over to High School from Midlle school was a huge transformation. Having to do a great mass of home work each night, is hard. But the only hard thing is high school is knowing that you cant graduate. Being in my shoes Freshman year of High School is very hard, but I knew what to do to be successful and achieve great things.

You need to decide where you will go at a young age. MIT?...Oxford?... Caltech?... Harvard. Maximum age to decide? Five. At five tell your parents. Make sure they know. You really want to go. When it comes to elementary school… Who cares about elementary school? You do. That's because you're going to get into Harvard. Make sure you stand out as the smartest kid. Middle school comes around and you are at a public middle school. You need to become the valedictorian in your middle school. You didn’t ever do any work or homework. Nobody cares though. But you do because you're going to go to Harvard.

Some may think that high school and college reading and writing are similar and that it’s just the next level up but it 's not, they differentiate in many ways. College reading and writing is more than that, it’s a completely different world when compared to high school. It’s much more advanced and complexed. Some ideas that can be compared are the way we annotate, understand text, assignment topics, the depth of research, and so on. This is important to understanding how much more you can get out of college vs. just getting a high school reading and writing education.

Now high school can be a big pain in the butt, but in reality, what would you be doing at home if you weren't in school? Probably just sitting down and eating. High school is a big responsibility and a big change. Teacher's don't mean to scare you by giving you a ton of homework they're just getting you ready for the rest of your life because that is their job. You do get a lot of freedom, stress really kicks in and the people in the hallway can get on your nerves, but in the end High School is a great

High school can either be the best or worst four years of your life. There is always a minimum of requirements that one has to complete before you are considered a high school graduate. Many see it as basic and can get through it like a walk in the park, but as for others it requires more than just doing your work. Staying after school, going to tutoring, staying up late and sacrificing give you one heck of a ride. When you look back at the amount of work that has been given to you, it is just a segment of what has yet to come. Most importantly, it prepares you if you take advantage of what has been offered to you. In order for oneself to feel successful, it takes hard work and dedication.
