Child Development Analysis

Children develop in many ways including through physical activity, mental activity and interaction with others (Roode, 1). According to a January 2007 clinical

routines is a great way to assess children. This will allow the teacher to get the most accurate information of the child’s progress.

All children are unique and a lot of their developmental milestones happen naturally as they get older, however some can be affected by different life factors, such as health, environment and background and more specific skills can be learnt and encouraged. I have outlined below the usual expected patterns of development for children showing the rate and sequence in which development takes place. However all children are individual and this is an outline of expected development.

The child's first year is very important, it not only is when the child is doing big things for the first time but it's when children form a special bond with his/her parents. From the moment the child is born the parents have a very good indication of who or what they want their child to grow up wether that's personally wise. Most parents just want their children to be happy and healthy. It is important to feed the child wholesome and nutritious meals and to look after the child. Not to disrespect it. The child will go through three main development stages in the first year physical,mental and intellectual.

The table presents an overview of child development from birth to nineteen years of age. The time frames are averages and children may achieve the developmental milestones earlier or later but still be what is considered ‘normal’.

Their family/Home circumstances are a factor that may cause affect to their development. The condition of a child’s home environment is an important aspect of how they progress. If a child lives in an environment that is overcrowded or is too loud, it can negatively impact their personality. Too many members living in the same house can reduce the time you spend with your child, as you will be busy with others in the house. The child may therefore find other ways to keep busy and distance themselves from their home. Not having a positive relationship with their parents/carers can also affect their development. If a child feels they cannot confide in their parents/carers they may experience social problems including, withdrawal, loneliness,

Developmental psychology is the scientific study of changes that occur in human beings over the course of their life. Initially focused on infants and children, the life stages of developmental psychology is ranged to include infancy, adolescence, adult development, and the entire lifespan. This field looks at change across a wide range of topics that includes motor skills and other psychological processes such as cognitive development involving areas like problem solving, moral understanding, conceptual understanding, language acquisition, social personality, emotional development, and self-concept and identity formation.

From the video observation, the two three-year old children, Thomas and Riley set off on a bus journey along with their childminder; it is observed that both the children speak about their journey, in which they are able to identify various features, which include the passengers; various buildings and different types of buses. Both children observe many of the features by taking photographs to highlight what they have observed on their journey. From observation, the video looks at the way the childminder plans the experience from a child-initiated stance, which directs the children’s learning in addition with assisting them with role-play and symbolic play, which is shown towards the end of the video. Before taking this course, my comprehension of lifespan development was basic. I was aware that the beginning of ones’ journey through life starts in the mother’s womb and continuously develops as they mature from a child to an adult ending with death. By the same token, it was also my understanding that we are who become as a result of what our parents teach us and how they discipline us; however, taking this course broadened my understanding. Although I do believe that our parents play a significant role in our development throughout life, I now realize numerous contributing factors also influence our development. Unfortunately, though it may be extremely helpful to several of us, especially first-time parents, there is not a how-to guide

Childhood development encompasses the cognitive, physical, social, moral and emotional changes from birth until the end of adolescence (White, Hayes & Livesey, 2013). Throughout childhood, environment and genetics promote or discourage growth and development. This essay will analyse the cognitive, physical, social, moral and emotional domains in relativity to my own development from the prenatal stage until adolescence. Psychological and environmental theories are used to develop the understanding and connection between each domain and stage of development. Lastly, this essay will address the controversial nature verses nurture debate and its relevance to my childhood development.
