The studies on children with risk behaviors were done because the increasing number of children being place in foster care due to maltreatment. This is how the study was done to get a up to date examined on youth that had been though protective services and vulnerability factors in foster care. Some individual predicted placing youth in the foster care system would cause an impact in the maltreatment and physical abuse. Maltreatment and physically abuse don’t stop due a child being place in foster care out-of-home care; children that has been in any type of Truman will need some kind of counsel services.

Although no one is perfect, it is important that parents put their children into consideration when acting upon certain situations. Children are the future of America and every child deserves to have all the tools necessary to succeed in life. In some cases, the physical effects are temporary; however, the pain and suffering can cause long term effects such as anxiety and depression as their brain matures. All forms of abuse take effect on a child’s outlook on life and are equally damaging. Children have the ability to become an extraordinary individual who can one day change the world.

Child abuse is a serious matter and when there is insight of child abuse, the clinician should make sure that child abuse or maltreatment is taking place by confirming with multiple resources, like teachers, the child, parents, CPS, etc. Maltreatment occurs because of multiple factors, like previous parent history of abuse/ maltreatment, poverty, etc. (Lanier, Kohl, Benz, Swinger, and Drake, 2014).Thomas and Zimmer-Gembeck (2011) conducted a research study where PCIT was evaluated to see if it is has an effect on improving or reducing the chances of child abuse and maltreatment. It is very sickening to realize how many children are abused. I fully believe that the individuals who hurt children are evil and deserving of the harshest punishment available. Maltreatment of a child is considered to be any type of abuse such as; physical, sexual, psychological, medical, and neglect. The top form of maltreatment in regards to children in 2010 was neglect at 78.3%. To me this number was a bit of a shocker. When I think of maltreatment I think of physical and sexual abuse. I know that neglect is also a type of maltreatment but it is not what my mind quickly goes to. Surprisingly only 17.6% were physically abused and 9.2% were sexually abused. Ignoring children’s needs, putting them in unsupervised, dangerous situations, or making a child feel worthless or stupid are also child abuse. Child abuse is a worldwide issue. It has decreased over the years, but is still affecting a number of children. Unfortunately, the abuse can lead to a lifetime of low self-esteem, distrust, and hurt. In fact, one study showed 80% of 21-year-olds, who were abused as children, had at least one psychological disorder (ChildHelp). Abuse should not be overlooked as a minor issue because the effects are major. Sadly, lives are constantly being taken due to uncontrollable psychological disorders which began after they were abused as a child. Child abuse causes emotional scars to have professional or medical help in order to have them cope with the trauma before it is too late.

Child abuse is a devastating problem all across the world. All genders, ages, races and ethnicities are represented among the abusers and the abused. There are many different forms of child abuse such as neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse. Neglect accounts for 63% of child abuse cases, emotional accounts for 8% and even though it doesn’t seem like it, can be the cruelest form of child abuse. Child maltreatment is any kind of abuse or neglect that may happen to a child. School staff, healthcare professionals, clergy, certain public safety staff, social workers, and therapists are all mandated reporters. Some physical Indicators in child physical abuse are: fractures, lacerations, unexplainable bruises, or fake explanations, burns (cigarette, rope, scalding water, iron, radiator), facial injuries (black eyes, broken jaw, broken nose, bloody or swollen lips) with implausible or without explanations, subdural hematomas, long-bone fractures, fractures in different states of healing, pattern of bruising (parallel or circular bruises) or bruises in different stages of discoloration, that show repeated trauma over time.

It is estimated nearly 794,000 reports of child physical or sexual abuse were substantiated in 2008 in the United States, a rate of 10.3 per 1,000 children (Painter). Child abuse is any behavior that, by act or omission occurring physical or mental harm to a person less than 18 years, affecting the development of his personality. Certain households believe that the most effective way to educate children is by abuse. This form of punishment is used as an instrument of correction and moral development strategy, as it is the first and most persistent justification of the harm inflicted abusive parents and their children. Society has to give importance to this phenomenon that is sweeping away our most valuable assets;

Maltreatment is a sever form of parental abuse that could really take a toll on a developing child. Children should be treated with the utmost care because they are developing and growing physically, physiologically, and emotionally everyday for starters. It has always been a known staple that children need to get enough sleep, eat their vegetables, along with a healthy diet, and follow and healthy regimen in order to reach full healthy potential. Malnourishment effects organ growth and cognitive skills. Unfortunately children need assistance when they are young and cannot do everything for themselves. This is where parents come into play and could make or break a child’s developmental potential. Children learn a lot from their parents, every child has whether its good or bad, things to avoid, or encourage, learning is happening, absorbing. Most people would think that a child who was abused by a form of maltreatment as a child would undoubtedly provide and nourish properly their own. Evidence suggests that is not always the case surprisingly. Child abuse and neglect can be seen in many places like schools, homes, public places, like shopping malls, parking lots and so many other places even in airplane. Some abuse cause injury, some emotional distress, some neglect, some causes mental problems, some children are abused sexually, some abuse causes death which is the most tragic consequences of child abuse. Sexual and physical abuses are more noticeable because it is something that one can see. Other abuse is equally dangerous and very damaging but not easy to be noticed.

Abuse is to treat a person or an animal with violence regularly or repeatedly and to use something to badly affect causing misuse. Children all over America are being abused physically, mentally, and sexually. Child abuse is never the answer. Although child abuse may not always be helped, people should donate to this charity to have the chance in helping a child. The goals of Prevent Child Abuse America are to prepare the growth of developing, compassionate, parent-child relationships; to promote healthy childhood growth and development; and to build the foundations for strong family functioning.

Child Abuse is a very serious issue all throughout the world, in all different countries, cultures, and communities. The four main types of abuse are emotional abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse, and although emotional abuse and neglect are often overlooked, each has just as severe effects on children as sexual and physical abuse (Saisan et al.). The many causes of all kinds of the abuse of children have devastating effects on the child’s life presently and later on in life.

The Center of Disease Control states that about 1,670 children died from child abuse and neglect in 2015 (“Violence Prevention.”). Child abuse is defined as mistreatment of a child by a parent or guardian (“Child Abuse.”). It includes physical abuse, neglect, abandonment, sexual abuse, emotional/mental abuse, and substance abuse. Physical abuse is when the person intentionally causes physical injury to the child while neglect is when the parent or guardian fail to provide basic needs for the child. In addition, abandonment is when a parent leaves a child alone where they are harmed or fail to contact their child. Moreover, sexual abuse is when a parent fondles, rapes or indecent exposure of the child. Next there is emotional/mental abuse which is when a parent criticizes, threats, or rejects the child while showing them no love or support. Lastly, some states classify substance abuse as child abuse and that’s when the child is exposed to drugs/alcohol, make drugs near children or prenatal exposure. While completing my research I interviewed a child abuse victim named Halley, whose last name will remain unknown to ensure anonymity. Child abuse is harmful to a child, because it affects them physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or their individuality.
