The American Revolution was revolutionary because revolutionary means to engage in or promote political revolution. That is exactly what the colonies where doing when they were trying to get rid of being under King George III power. The American Revolution was revolutionary because the colonist fought for freedom from England. When the colonist first settled in 1607 King George III didn’t really pay that much attention. During this time of salutary neglect, the colonist allowed themselves to develop at their own pace and self-govern themselves. In 1763 Britain tightened up on the colonist by increasing taxes. In 1765 there was an act placed on the colonist called the Quartering Act that the colonist had to house British soldiers and accommodate their needs and provide food for the British soldiers in the area. In 1761 the saying "Taxation without Representation is tyranny," was attributed by James Otis reflected the resentment of the American colonist on being taxed by England. In 1770 there was an event where Lobsterbacks shot and killed American colonist in a mob with bayonets, this event is known as The Boston Massacre. In March of 1774 the Coercive or Intolerable Acts where placed on the colonies by Britain. The idea of the Coercive Acts for the colonies was to enrage the colonist after they had dumped all the tea into the harbor during the Boston Tea party.
