I have set several goals for myself using the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely) goal form to make them as obtainable as possible. Although I have written these goals in such a way, there are still a couple obstacles I anticipate running into while trying to reach any one of my goals, specifically, the ones I anticipate encountering for my second-year career goals. My second-year career goals include trying to get an internship abroad and being a volunteer somewhere that focuses on sustainability. The first obstacle I believe I will encounter is making time to make sure I make the goal remotely possible and not procrastinating, if I do not make the time, there is no way I can achieve the goal. The next obstacle I will likely encounter is making mistakes. I know I will make mistakes in pursuing my goals; however, I have to make sure even after making those mistakes I do not give up and keep working hard to achieve the goals. Over …show more content…
I have learned a lot about the career search and the different strategies in going about it in business as well as other professions. This course has been helpful to help me in knowing how to fulfill my overall goals for after college because I have learned the necessary skills to do so. This involves effectively setting goals along with knowing how to take action to achieve those goals, which is what we learned about in this course. The most impactful part of this course was the interviewing skills. The informal interview along with the informational interview assignments truly pushed me out of my comfort zone; morever, they were very rewarding as I have never had any true interview experience before that. Not only did I learned a lot about interviewing, but I also learned a lot during my informational interview about different industries and what it takes to run a business, along with some advice from an expert such as networking and risk

Along my path, my coursework helped solidify that choice as the right choice for me. In undergraduate classes, I never took any career counseling classes, so up until this class, I had been developing my general counseling philosophy, but not my career counseling philosophy. So far, I have really enjoyed taking a look at how to apply some theories I was already familiar with, like myers-briggs, and new theories like trait and factor theory to career counseling.

Attending graduate school is incredibly important to my career goals for several reasons. I hope to attend Appalachian State University to complete my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in order to assist people who have experienced trauma relating to sexual assault, abuse, domestic violence, and similar issues. The primary reason that graduate school is essential to my success as a future counselor is that it will teach me the skills to provide competent clinical services to my clients. As a future counselor, it is my ethical and moral responsibility to provide services that help clients and do not harm them. Without continuing my education, I would simply be unable to do this. Attending a graduate program will allow me to participate in classes, practicums, and internships that will teach me a wide range of essential skills. Classes offered through the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, such as Multicultural Counseling, Counseling Theory and Techniques, and Helping Relationships will all be vital in helping me learn to provide competent, empirically-backed therapeutic services. Additionally, elective courses such as Sexual Abuse Counseling and Women’s Issues in Counseling are especially relevant to my goal to become a
My academic goal is to graduate Argosy University with a bachelors degree in Forensic Psychology in three years time. Forensic Psychology is the study of the criminal mind, in a nutshell. The main motivation to achieve this goal would be intrinsic. I love asking questions and knowing the answers as to why people do what they do, and in a criminals case, what led them to committing the crime. This goal, however, may have some extrinsic motivation as well. Being knowledgeable about certain behaviors that criminals poses may help solve or even prevent a crime. In addition, having a degree will help open different paths in life, ones that may present me with greater job opportunities. My attitude toward the learning process will help my achievement of each goal because I am eager, determined and motivated. My greatest desire is to succeed in life, and obtaining an education is one thing I know will help me. I perhaps will need to make some adjustments along my journey. I do not know yet if I will find another educational path that intrigues me the most. For now, I do not feel that any adjustments need to be made.
