The poem of beowulf is important to us because, it teaches us about Loyalty, and the Anglo-saxon culture. The reason the book of beowulf has loyalty in it is because it has people in the book who are actually loyal. One of these people that are loyal in the book is Beowulf, he shows signs of loyalty in the book when he agrees to Hrothgar to rid his kingdom of the monstrous evil named Grendel who has been terrorizing the mead hall for the past 12 years. Then when grendel's mother attacks the hall for revenge for the death of her son, Beowulf tells everyone that he will stay and fight grendel's mom.

Being a hero can be defined many different ways. Several qualities like courage, respect, and strength can define heroism. A hero is noted for his or her actions for being brave, powerful, and acting with honor. In the epic poem, Beowulf, the main character Beowulf shows all of these characteristics by defending the Danish king, Hrothgar, and his people. He is a true hero by honoring his country and exerting his power and strength to protect others. Beowulf embodies the qualities of bravery, being powerful, and demonstrating his honor; therefore, he can be considered a true hero.

A hero is a person who, faced danger and adversity and still displays a sense courage and bravery. Through all his trials and tribulations Beowulf still managed to keep his courage.

Why is beowulf a hero? He is a hero because he protects people from monsters and dragons. He will fight without weapons or with weapons. Some of the monsters he can’t fight with weapons. Beowulf is the strongest among men. Beowulf can kill monster with his bare hands.

Beowulf’s embodiment of both warrior-like and king-like heroic traits is the predominant reason he is so successful in Anglo-Saxon society; however, it is also the cause of his demise. As stated previously, Beowulf’s loyalty towards his people drives many decisions he makes, and when faced with the impeding threat of the dragon, Beowulf’s loyalty drives his decision to personally fight it. Although this action directly complies with the values of loyalty and protectionism associated with the heroic code of kings, it is directly contradicted by the ideal of political skills, that is kings making decisions with the best interest of their people in mind. Although at the time, fending off the dragon seems to Beowulf like the proper course of action

Was Beowulf really a hero? Indeed he was, showing off his heroic characteristic of bravery, intelligence, wisdom, and strength throughout his journey to defeat Grendel and save the Danes. Even after anointed as King of Sweden, he still demonstrated his act as a heroic figure to his people.

The idea of having a strong relationship with one another is a big part of this poem because reputation is the common way people recognize others. Loyalty guided Beowulf's every step; from his first to his last. Beowulf portrays loyalty to the people; which is critically important to the development of strong relationships and a well-functioning community.

After spending over a week reading the story "Beowulf", we can all come to the conclusion that he is a hero. Sure, he saves countries from monsters, has incredible strength and wisdom, and is fearless- the typical fictional hero. However, when I hear the word hero, I think in terms of an everyday hero. In my mind, a hero is someone who performs courageous acts even if the consequences can be fatal. A hero doesn't have to be some big muscled guy who beats up bad guys. My example of a hero is a fireman. He/she knows that they might be killed rescuing someone from a burning building, yet they still go in. Why? Probably for the honor and glory that people will give them.
