As one would know from both he movie, but as I know more commonly from the book this a true story about ho one man stood up against the nfl. Concussion by Jeanne Marie Laskas is broken up into three parts. Three parts of the protagonist Bennet Omalu. One being his you in Nigeria, and how he climbed up the international ladder to America, which he quotes “America is the land of God.” It his desire to travel and learn more that drives him to where he wants to be. The second part is when he finishes his education has set himself a career, and stumbles on the highlight and climax of his life. However, to get into the depth of lesson learned, it was all to inspire the little guy in the crowd. Concussion by Jeanne Marie Laskas, was a story of an underdog. An underdog who had to stand his ground against a whole corporation. A corporation that owned a day of the week. Not only that, Bennet Omalu’s credit was sometimes taken by others, and people didn’t see him as the discoverer of CTE. The message the author was trying to convey, was to always stand your ground against a person or thing, no matter the size. Secondly, it doesn’t matter if you get the credit for the good you do, it only matters if others benefit from it. The intended audience for this novel, are people who want to hear a story of strong man not in strength but in mind. She has exposed Bennet Omalu’s story, and massively butter coated Omalu’s morals. From this story I learned that credit received is not important. Its how important your deed to humanity is. However, if the authors goal was to spread Bennet Omalu’s story, then one would say that she achieved more than that. After all, her novel became a Columbia Pictures Hit. Through out the novel I was introduced to some original suggestions or possibilities as I read the book. As I read the book I saw many people take credit for Dr. Omalu’s research and work. I realized that if these people took credit for the CTE discovery than how come no one else thinks that the great people in history are really the ones who do their extraordinary findings. It got me thinking, was Thomas Edison really the one who built the first light bulb. Or could it have been one of the many different types of people in his team behind him. The non-convincing part of this book, is people in this story are so racist and prejudice towards African Americans, even though this is only the mid 2000’s. It might have something to do with the environment of Pittsburgh compared to California. However, at such a time, how to lawyers and real-estate agents still think it was okay to be prejudice during 2006.
