Benjamin Franklin In this world there is nothing certain but death and taxes. This is a quote by Benjamin Franklin. Benjamin Franklin had many quotes throughout his time that made him stand out in his generation. He was always making improvements to better himself in life. Benjamin Franklin had a childhood like we would not have today. When he was ten years old his father took Benjamin out of school to come work with him. His dad owned a candle making shop in Boston. After cutting candle wicks for 2 years, Benjamin was not happy, so his father sent him to go work with his brother at the age of 12. James owned a print shop also in Boston. Benjamin ended up writing witty letters under a made up name for the public in James’s papers. The reason he did this is because James did not like publishing his little brother’s letters. When the governor saw these letters in the paper he put James in jail and Benjamin took over the print shop till James got out of jail. Benjamin arrived a few days later in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When he got there the first thing he did was buy some paper and ink with the rest of the money that he had. Then he started writing and got a job as an apprentice printer at a local print shop owned by Sam Keimer. Though a year later the governor of Pennsylvania told Benjamin if he would go to London he would sponsor him and pay the expenses. So Benjamin went to London to thinking that the governor was going to sponsor him. When Benjamin got there the governor did not sponsor him and wouldn’t pay any of his expenses for the trip back to Philadelphia. So Benjamin took up residents in little Britain, which was a great place for printers and book sellers. Benjamin also got a job at another print shop in little Britain.
