There are more jobs in today’s society that require college degrees. College graduates develop more and better employment opportunities within earning a degree. Self-discipline is a major element in becoming a successful graduate. Also, college graduates are healthier and live longer. Adults-young and old, male and female-who have a bachelor’s degree or higher have twice the annual median income than someone with only a high school degree ("Do college graduates," 2014).

Going to college would make finding a job in life a fairly effortless task. An individual with a college education could accept a well-earned job, and may even often find better opportunities throughout his or her lifetimes than ever possible dreamed for. Data from the U.S Department of Labor shows that college graduates have lower rates of unemployment. The rate of unemployment with a bachelor’s degree is 2.7%, while the rate of those with a high school education is 5.2% (Employment Projections, Bureau of Labor Statistics). This depicts that those who earn a college education have a better chance at getting a job. Their data also shows that those with a college education have higher salaries. The median weekly earning for those with a college degree is $1,156 and the median weekly earnings for those with a high school education is $692. Not only are college graduates getting jobs and making more money, but they are also healthier and happier. Nowadays, companies require at least a college degree for better income. If an employer has two candidates for an open position, he will pick the best of both the one that fills all the requirements. Also, there is a high probability that the person chosen is the one with the highest level of education. Another reason to have a college degree is to earn more money with better features and benefits. In today’s society the cost of rent, food, medical insurance, and others bills is too high. A person with a high school diploma may need to have two jobs to support its family. Nowadays, the best recommendations are to either have a business or at least have a degree this will facilitate your income. A college degree is the base to accomplish higher goals in a company. The more education an employee has the faster this person gets to move up in a company.

Attending college or pursuing a higher education is worth it because a degree ensures a stable, well paying job and provides a better quality of life. In Document A, “Earning and Unemployment Rates Based on Educational Attainment, 2015” compiled by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, a higher educational degree, such as a Doctorate or Professional degree, corresponded to a lower unemployment rate with a higher pay, while little to no educational degree corresponded to a higher unemployment rate with a lower pay. This means people who received a college degree had a better chance of finding and retaining a well-paying job because they are typically skilled in one profession that cannot easily be replaced, such as a doctor or engineer.

Another pro to having a college degree is that people who do not go to college are more likely to be unemployed and therefore, place an unwanted financial strain on society. In addition to having an advantage when gaining employment, college graduates also tend to have better job security. This means that when it comes time to lay off employees, employers are often more likely to choose employees without college degrees. “It’s that employers believe that B.A./B.S. graduates are generally more likely to be ready than high school graduates. In the absence of any other validation, they turn to a bachelor’s degree as the only meaningful proxy they can find” (Sigelman).

Evidence: Obtaining a college degree provides career, financial stability and long term job for the future. The employment rate for an individual with a college degree is higher than an individual with a high school degree. For example, the employment rate was highest for young adults with a bachelor’s or higher degree (88 percent). The employment rate for young adults with some college (77 percent) was higher than the rate for those who had completed high school (69 percent), which was, in turn, higher than the employment rate for those who had not finished high school (48 percent). By having a college degree employers are willing to pay a higher salary for your services. An education is also beneficial in others, rather than finding a job. Additionally, “it’s not valuable for the piece of paper you get at the end; it’s valuable for the experiences you have, the skills and knowledge you actually learn, and the accomplishments you achieve while there” (Hamm, 2016, para. 8).

In this day and age, an increasing amount of employers are requiring a higher level of education in order to hire people. Having a degree allows adults to have multiple choices of when, where, and how they work. Because of this, college graduates have new and improved employment opportunities. In a recent study of young americans, 58% of college graduates and people with some college or associate's degree expressed being "very satisfied" with their jobs, compared to only 50% of high school graduates and a drastic 40% of people without a high school diploma. Applicants who have obtained a college degree are normally hired at a higher pay rate and are considered to be much more employable. This means that I, as a college graduate, would be more likely to be offered the job position than someone that did not attend college or get a degree. College will also help in preparing an individual such as myself for a career in a particular field.
