Do zoos fulfill the needs of the animals? Should animals be kept in only one enclosure for their whole life? Is it worth all the time and money for the animals to be unhappy? Many people think zoos are doing a good job of keeping animals happy in the man made zoos. Because people think that, they support the zoos by giving them money to see these animals instead of going to animal preservations where the enclosures aren’t entirely man made. Animals that can function and survive in the wild should not be kept in zoos because the enclosures do not meet the needs of the animals living in them, zoos restrict animals from their innate behavior and their natural instincts, and zoos are expensive and damage animals homes.
Enclosures in zoos do not provide everything the animal needs. In paragraph 6 in the article

In paragraph 4 of the article ”Do Animals Lose in Zoos?” it says “Zoos spend millions of dollars to create bigger and better enclosures to improve the conditions for the animals.” In order to build a big zoo, the person who owns the zoo must clear out land for the zoo, which means animals homes will be wiped out. Although the money spent for bigger enclosures gives the animals improved living conditions, it would be much more efficient for the animals to just live in the wild and we wouldn’t have to spend so much money for zoos. Instead, the money spent for zoos can be used for more important things such as medical research or even animal preservations. Animal preservations care for animals that can’t fend for themselves in the wild and teach people how to help, instead of keeping perfectly capable animals in man made enclosures. Although animals in captivity do live longer, they probably are not happy with their living conditions. Therefore, wild animals should be kept out of zoos, unless they can not survive on their own, then they should be taken to an animal
As is written in the article, “He says zoos play a major role in educating people about animals and promoting wildlife conservation.” Ultimately, what the person is trying to clarify is how zoos play a vital role in our associations to conserve flora and fauna. Conjointly, without zoos, people will waste the wildlife and continue to pollute the earth. Without zoos, animal life would cease to exist. You may go against the grain and consider that zoos must be banned for the fact that they are very deadly to the environment. Nevertheless, I still hold my conviction that zoos are a must. At length, zoos persuade the public to conserve the
Zoos are an enclosure that traps the animal. There are people out there who care about the animals in captivity. Craig Brokenshaw, an Australian surfer dedicated to saving the dolphins in captivity said, “I felt quite sad, quite disgusted. It looked like they weren’t happy at all. They just looked kind of lifeless and disinterested,” Zoos are businesses that surround breeding and buying wild animals. Around 10,000 zoos worldwide hold at least 3,000 animals each. All of these animals are in captivity when they should really be in their natural habitat, whether it’s the grasslands or the jungle. That means that millions of animals are locked in and suffering greatly. Zoos are an insalubrious
Zoos across the world claim to be safe, suitable homes that replicate habitats of animals that are usually found in the wild. However, there is no possible way for wild habitats to be replicated well enough for animals in captivity to thrive, animals are often separated and withheld from living as they would in the wild. Despite their argument of being educational for visitors, the only thing they are teaching the public is that it is ok to take animals out of the wild and lock them up for their own enjoyment. Regardless of these claims, zoos are inhumane.
There have been many discussions about the welfare of animals since the first zoos were created. Some people agree that animals should be kept in zoo’s, they argue that it benefits the animals because their every need is catered to. However, in some zoo’s they are treated the exact opposite of being catered to. Sometimes the animals are also deprived of a natural environment that the zoo’s fail to recreate. However, zoo’s can be helpful educationally to kids. It gives them a close up on the beauty of the animals, but it comes at the animals expense.
Animals are deprived of their natural habitat when transferred from the wild open space of the wild only to be fenced inside a limited habitat. Peta.org explains “Elephants typically walk up to 30 miles in just one day, but Lucy, the lone elephant at the Edmonton Zoo, is locked inside a barn… spends most of her time indoors…”. This doesn’t only apply to elephants, but to many other animals. Preventing them from thriving, because of the limited space provided per animal. Additionally, this leads to health problems because of the restricted amount of movement, health problems like arthritis. However zoos are not only causing physical harm, but mentally making animals sick causing many cases of depression. Trapping animals in cages stressed them out and can make them unhappy taking matters into their own hands trying to kill themselves according to
As claimed in the LCA article, ”Animals in zoos are forced to live in artificial, stressful, and downright boring conditions”(User, Super). Evidence shows time to time that animals are being affected by zoos. There are many things hidden behind the facilities, that many people do not know about. The animals are being held in conditions that no animal should ever live in. Even though some zoos do focus on helping the animals, they are not as beneficial to the animal because they are not provided with the proper care and attention they need and zoos do not try to fix their problems.
According to the passage “The Impact of Animal Protection” it says “In the wild, animals share territory with other species, and the idea of survival of the fittest is very apparent.” it also mentions that the innate instincts they have to survive can be hurt and sometimes gone if they are kept in captivity for too long. The animals are more likely to be hurt by predators because they forget the their natural ways from when they were wild and untouched by the human kind. Others may say that it’s great for many of the to be in the animals to be in zoos mainly for the entertainment to them when they go to see the animals. However I still feel that it is not necessary for them to be locked away in the captivity of zoos for human needs they have their own needs to you
Zoos may seem fun to visit and exciting to see the animals; but what you don’t see is the suffering and depression that lies in these helpless creatures. There are many arguments whether or not zoos are good or bad, and if they should be removed or kept. Several think that zoos should be abolished or at least very much improved, due to animal cruelty. While, others want zoos to stay because it is beneficial for the animals and people. I strongly believe that zoos aren’t good for both the public and animals for numerous reasons.
People argue that Zoos aren’t safe or can’t chose what is better for animals. There have been many points of views that zoos aren’t good because it can affect animals in all sorts of ways, like suffering mentally and physically by being in captivity. Truth is, animals are more safe in zoos than they are in the wild. Most animals are proven to live longer in captivity than in the wild because zoos have everything an animal needs to be able to stay healthy have all the safety they need, compared to the wild where they can catch diseases and be killed. In the article ‘’The Scientist’’ researchers from Université de Lyon in France concluded that 80 percent of these mammals live longer in captivity than in the wild. I think this is a pretty big percent for animals living in captivity than to living in the wild, and this is good because it means that our animals are around for longer and are safe. Animals living in the wild are more likely to be having a shorter life. As well as zoos helping animals live longer, zoos are helping animals that are

“As a businessman, I believe that we should not invest in a zoo. The zoo would be a waste of money. People are hardly impressed or fascinated by an animal locked in a cage anymore and there is a slim chance that I will get the money I invested back. A zoo can take years to build and acres of land that we don’t have to spare. We’d be better off building factories in place of the zoo, and they’d make twice as much money twice as fast. While baby animals may bring in some visitors and money, the incentive to breed them can lead to overpopulation. If we built the zoo, we would have only accounted for a specific amount of animals. Breeding can lead to reduced space for all of them and we may need to let some go. Some people
The first modern zoo founded was in Vienna, Madrid and Paris in the eighteenth century and later in London and Berlin in the nineteenth century. The first zoo to be established in America was in Philadelphia and Cincinnati in the 1870s. In today’s America there are thousands of zoos. Humans like to be entertained regardless of how they are being entertained, whether that is walking through the park, watching a show, listening to music or simply going to the zoo. There is truth behind zoos that many don’t see, for example, many zoos don’t show the death rates that many zoo animals have after being transported from their natural habitants or the experiences that the zoo keepers provide to the animals being kept in captivity. To what extent are we okay with animals being tortured or being aware that animals are being killed just so humans can be entertained? While there are benefits to keeping animals in captivity, scholars agree that there are more negative effects that are damaging to the animals. The purpose of zoos can be more than just keeping animals in captivity and creating significant health or mental problems, zoos also can have a positive outcome, zoos can help keep endangered animals safe from others who are trying to kill them for what they are worth. Jamieson explains and gives one example of when people started putting animals in captivity. The Romans is the example that Jamieson uses, the Romans “kept animals in order to have living fodder for
Being placed in a zoo can dramatically help endangered animals receive the care that they need which may not be accessible in the wild. In William Dudley’s Animal Rights, author John Ironmonger was quoted as saying, “Certainly, zoo animals do tend to live longer lives, to feed better, and to suffer from fewer parasites or diseases. They live without fear of predation; they live without famine” (72-73). His quote supports the argument that endangered animals are provided for in captivity. In the wild, animals under threat of extinction fear starvation, poachers, disease, and predators. Placing these animals in zoos can give them rehabilitation and a perseverance of their lives. Another author, Kevin Hile, supports the claim that endangered animals are preserved in zoos by discussing the evolution of zoos. When zoos first started, they were merely used to bring in revenue. Now, zoos play a role in helping save endangered animals from extinction (Hile 133). Zoos
In this article the author, Terry L. Maple, focuses mainly on the animal enclosures. Maple states that although the sizes are frequently inadequate, that the quality of the space is just as important than the quantity of the space. Many animals that are in zoos, they are removed from the wild at a young age. With animals like monkeys it is more noticeable. Maple speaks of how monkeys that are taken from their mothers seem to go 'insane' whenever they are in captivity. Not only does it affect their mental state, it also affects their parenting skills. Motherless monkeys are more likely to neglect their own babies. Maple also talks about how most zoos only have the room and money for a few animals for each exhibit and how it isn't healthy for
“Zoos try to make the animal’s enclosure as interesting as possible. One way of doing this is through ENVIRONMENTAL ENRICHMENT. Enrichment is the use of novel objects or ideas to increase the natural behaviour of the animals. Different objects and methods are used for different animals.” (1)
