He originally created the game for his gym class because, it was unbearable outside for any other sports , and the game originally was nonphysical and only had 13 rules.

I recently learnt more about basketball. Apparently, it was invented by a Canadian for the YMCA in order to motivate teenagers and young adult's in to healthy living, team work, and passion. It was too cold in Massachusetts for a lot of outdoor sports and the intent was to give the young men an indoor sport. It seems to me then that you got the exact lessons that James Naismith, the original inventor, intended. Personally, I support sports because of these lessons and the added element of fun.
