Basketball is the best sport in the nation. It was created by a Canadian man named James Naismith and he was a PE teacher.The first basketball goals were peach baskets and they played in cages made of chicken wire and mesh. At the beginning of basketball, they used soccer balls before actual basketballs were created.They also did not dribble a lot at the beginning of basketball, they would catch the ball and take a couple of steps to slow down or stop. Since then the game of basketball has changed greatly, no one is no longer playing in cages with wires, and the game requires a lot of athleticism and ability. In basketball, you don’t really have to try that hard in practice to the point where somebody has to get hurt. Basketball and Football both cause concussions, concussions are very dangerous because you could pass out, get brain damage, and you wouldn’t be able to play for a couple of weeks. Concussions are caused by very hard contact or somebody call fall on your head. If a person gets a concussion they won’t be able to run for some time. A good treatment for a concussion is to get a lot of rest and don’t try to do anything that will make it worst. Most of the time the players don’t rest they be too quick to try to get back to what they were doing that when they do come back then they probably are out once again.
Basketball has as many injuries as football and they both be having injuries that are very serious and could end someone's career. Once you get a concussion you go through a period of time during your recovery where your brain is more sensitive. If you are hit again while in this period you can get "second impact syndrome". If this happens an athlete clearly started playing much too early, which is why they should be given longer waiting periods to play.
Athletes of all ages are playing with some sort of injury or concussion. The main reason athletes are never fully recovered is the aspect of those surrounding the athlete. The athlete just wants to be able to help his team and show how strong they are. Studies show “42 percent of kids said that they have downplayed or hidden injuries so that they could keep playing” (Murray, 2014, para. 6). This is how athletes today think they are being tough but in reality it can lead to more serious consequences.
