Argentina is the most southern country in South America. It is the 8th largest country in the world and is also the 2nd largest country in South America. The northern boarders of Argentina are Bolivia and Paraguay, the west and south are bordered by Chile, and the east is bordered by Bolivia and Paraguay (Basic). Argentina also has many famous rivers, waterfalls, and mountains as well as many scenic areas that people come from all around the world to visit. One of the most well-known and most visited is the Iguazu Falls. Iguazu Falls is considered on if the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. In the Guarani language, “Iguazu” is a direct translation to “Great Waters”. The falls were discovered in 1541 by Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca. In 1984, it was stablished as a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is situated in the northern part of the providence Puerto Iguazu. Iguazu Falls are shared between Brazil and Argentina. The river Iguazu runs through a relatively smooth geography until it reaches a series of faults and cracks, and it suddenly ends at an 80 meter deep canyon. When the water falls into the canyon, it produces a thundering sound and then continues to drain into the canyon to continue the Iguazu River. There is a legend that says that there is a large serpent named “Boi” that lived in the river. In order to calm the ferocious beast, the people has to sacrifice a woman every year as an offering. There are the Andes on the western boarder for over 2500 miles (4000 kilometers). The Andes are also shared with Chile. Some of the highest peaks in the Andes are the Aconcagua, the Ojos del Salado, and the Pissis. Among those peaks, there are many challenging climbs. Some of the most challenging climbs in the Andes are the San Lorenzo, the Tronador, the Dos Picos, and the Domuyo. The Aconcagua is the highest summit in the Americas (North, Central, and South America). It is nearly 23000 feet tall (7000 meters). This is a dangerous mountain and many people die trying to climb it every year, despite this high cost of $1000 U.S dollar
