Aphorism Of A Life Lesson: A Life Of Morrie

Morrie always said, “ Don’t let go too soon, but don’t hang on too long.” This was true. This was an aphorism Morrie first shared with Ted Koppel on his Nightline show segment. Morrie Schwartz was a sociology professor at Brandeis University. His classes were a student favorite, as Morrie was a student favorite. Morrie was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in the summer of 1994, however, this death sentence would not change him for who he was. He had a great outlook on life, and he wanted to teach life to anyone who would listen. And so, he did.

One person that went too soon was Jose Fernandez, the Miami Marlins star pitcher. Jose had so much life to give. He was a great leader with an even greater personality. He was built with enthusiasm and character, and he Jose Fernandez passed in a tragic boating accident in September of 2016. Morrie would say that he went too soon. He had too much left to give. “ Life is a series of pulls back and forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to do something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn’t. You take certain things for granted, even when you know you should never take anything for granted.” Jose shouldn’t have gone on that boat back in September, because it was risky. However, everyone makes bad decisions. You never think that anything you do is going to hurt you, and that is just a part of life. We all took Jose’s life for granted and no one would have guessed that it would end so soon. But it did. Now we all have to live without one of the greatest gifts baseball had ever received. A baseball ace, mastermind, and one of the greatest characters baseball had ever seen. “Death ends a life, not a relationship.” Even though Jose is gone, we can still learn from him everyday. “Don’t let go too soon, but don’t hang on too long.” Jose just let go too
