Women Society Jamaica Kincaid was born in West Indies, which is located in Antigua. When the author writes you can tell she's from an island, on the way she uses to describe the ways a women should act. Kincaid usually writes about mother-daughter relationship. Her writing has a lot of feminist perspectives. The way Kincaid writes, she has an amazing way of making you visualize, they way she goes in depth with the topic. Kincaid had a rough childhood. At the age of thirteen, she was pulled out of school by her mother. Her mother told her she had to help her step-father out. Throughout her childhood, she never had much attention from her mother. When she turned seven-teen her mother had sent her to America to help support the family. She never received a mother to daughter relationship. The short story “Girl” takes place on a island in the Caribbean. The female role was very important to the culture they were raised in. Each female had to prove to the people that they well worthy on becoming a women. The female are easily judge for their boys, the why they dressed, people were aware of all certain behaviors the women will show. The short story clearly warns on how a women should be, warns her how to behave, and dress like a women because its the role they were meant to carry. “Girl” provides a relationship between a mother and daughter.
