In fact, a passion for travel is a prerequisite for working at Lonely Planet – it says so on every job description. Between us we’ve been to 191 countries. Tony Wheeler leads the contest, having visited144 countries.
Our head office is in Melbourne, Australia. People work hard in a restored cotton warehouse in the docklands. In Oakland we also work on the dock of the bay, watching cargo being sent off all over the world. By contrast, our London office is situated next to Sadlers’ Wells Theatre in Clerkenwell and, of course, the obligatory pub or two. Both the Melbourne and Oakland offices have Lonely Planet bands that perform at our office parties, sometimes featuring up to 30 band members onstage at once. That’s bigger than UB40!Our longest serving employee, Andy, has been with the company for nearly 30 years. She was also the very first employee, hired by Tony and Maureen to watch the office while they researched the earlier guidebooks. Because they appreciated Andy ʻminding shopʼ, they brought her back a snow dome. This began a collection that continues to grow today, overflowing several display cabinets in the Lonely Planet cafe.

Immediately after the 2004 Asian tsunami disaster, Lonely Planet mobilised to do what it could to help locals and travellers in affected areas.

The forces that drive changes in an organization are classified as internal and external forces. Internal forces of an organization pertains to events, factors, people, systems, structures, and conditions inside the organization that are generally under the control of the company such as the mission statement, organizational culture, and style of leadership. On the other hand, external forces are those factors that occur outside of the company, which could result to a change inside the organizations and most of the time beyond the control of the company such as customers, competition, the economy, technology, political and social conditions, and resources (Hartzell, 2017).
There are the tourists—those who seek temporary relaxation, or famous sights. There are the travelers—those who wander, without aim, for the love of moving. There are the explorers—those seeking adventure, the thrill of unearthing things rarely seen.

Macro environment or macro forces consists of the larger societal factors that have the potential to affect an organization’s strategies. According to Phillip Kotler, these variables include demographic, economic, natural, technological, political, and cultural outside forces. (“Josbd”, n.d, para. 7)
Environment: Environment is defined as landscape or geography in which an individual resides. Environment plays a big part of what makes an individual who they are. This concept may also affect a person’s psychological and physical health.
The importance of the analysis determines what outer factors that mold or influence management’s future strategic decisions. Accordingly, the general environment analysis incorporates several divisions, such as the economic circumstances, political/legal effects, socio-cultural powers, technological dynamics, and physical conditions (Gamble, Thompson, Peteraf, 2015). After the other lad had mentioned it something clicked in his mind, yes he remember now. He and Niall had taken advantage of their time off from university to travel, both lads had seen their fair share of Europe and so this was their next stop. Harry was almost certain Niall had been roped in by the concept of blue beer, maid cafés and robot wresting. Harry was just tagging along for the ride. There was something about travel that always sparked something in him. He felt worldly with each new journey. Even taking the short trip from London to Manchester or Leeds would excite him. These factors influence the internal environment of an organisation and they help in identifying the past and the present of the company, It also provides a frame work for reviewing strategy position and direction of the company.
There are forces which exist in the General environment with which Brinker International (BI) would have to deal with. Forces such as Economic, Technological, Socio-Cultural, Demographic, Political and Global which exist in the general environment adds another dimension and could affect the organizations day to day operations. Managers would need to consider the impact of these forces.
A businesses environment creates many opportunities as well as problems for prospering businesses. The environment determines what a business can do by shaping and channeling its development. Businesses function within an environment by allowing entrepreneurs to raise capital and create profits freely. The supply of money available within a business as well as the economic stability through times of growth and recession have strong effects on businesses. Environmental forces are something that is intangible but somehow it still affects your firm¡¦s operation. Therefore, these environmental forces can be divided into groups such as internal and external forces. In the Cathay Pacific Airway case, the internal forces can be considered as its human resource management, since the labor cost is its main concern. In addition, government policies, competitors and customer satisfaction will be considered as its external forces.
