What do you think about when someone says ‘Agriculture’? I think about all the hard working men and women who have jobs associated with agriculture. For example, veterinarians, agronomists, wildlife inspectors, and even my ag teacher. Today, I have interviewed my cousin, Sarah Marx, to help build interest for myself as well as others in agriculture. Sarah grew up in Beemer, Nebraska. So, agriculture has been an interest of her’s her entire life. Sarah was apart of the Beemer Dreemers 4-H club for 12 years where she showed rabbits and helped with the other livestock shows. Now, Sarah lives on a farm in Wisner, Nebraska where she has a horse training camp. She is also one of the Beemer Dreemers club leaders.
Sarah has a job in accounting and quality control at Central Plains Milling in Howells, Nebraska. Sarah attended college

For one, I love being able to communicate with people. If you can communicate well, this might be a job to consider. Another aspect I liked was accounting. I’m a great math student and to be able to incorporate math with my career will be great. Another aspect I like is being able to work in the agriculture atmosphere. I’ve been in 4-H for 9 years now and this is my first year of participating in FFA. As a freshman in high school, I love looking at all of my options for my future. Agriculture has been one of my career options since 7th grade. As I learn more and more about agriculture and how it plays a very important part in the world, my interest grows stronger and stronger.
To prepare for this career, I would have to have lots of extra classes, be certified with all Microsoft programs, be a certified office tech, have lots of experience, and communication skills. I am currently certified in Microsoft Office PowerPoint and working on being certified in Excel and Word. Without the help of technology, inbound and outbound truckers, mill workers, and farmers, Sarah’s job would be very
Now you see why agriculture is so important to Arkansas and its economy. Also why it is so important to me, and how it affects the way I live everyday. I also want to give thanks to all the farmers out there who are working hard everyday to contribute to Arkansas life. I feel thankful for being able to live in a state so rich in its
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) administers food assistance programs that help provide food for low to no income families. It is their goal to increase food security and reduce hunger by increasing access to food, a healthful diet, and nutrition education for low-income Americans (Caswell, 2013, para. 1). Some of the current nutrition assistance programs include “the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)”(Caswell, 2013, para. 1). SNAP will be the primary nutrition assistance program of the paper at hand. No matter how morally good it is to try to help reduce hunger and increase food security within the United States, there are still many questions regarding issues with SNAP. This paper will be discussing why there is such a strong support for the program, how it helps the United States as a whole, problems with the program, and why some people are against SNAP.
Education is a powerful tool and, when used correctly, it has the power to teach someone a new skill, transform his or her perspective, and encourage personal growth and development. Throughout this country, numerous agricultural education programs help students to learn more about and deepen their understanding of one of this nation’s most valuable industries: the agricultural industry. Most importantly, these programs play a major role in helping to combat the lack of
"I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words, but of deeds." These famous words from "The FFA Creed" by E.M. Tiffany outline the basic beliefs of FFA members and agriculturists around the world. But these values, although crucial to the sustaining of our world's ever-increasing population, are growing more and more detached from the people not involved in agriculture. Although food and fiber production has increased in recent years, providing more bushels per acre and more meat per head of cattle, the agriculture industry has come under fire due to an overwhelming majority of people being totally disconnected from the agriculture industry. Today, we'll examine the primary causes of this disconnect, the negative effects on agriculture and our society as a whole that results from it, and how you can help solve this ever-growing problem.
I have worked on my family farm ever since I was fourteen years old. This is where I have gained my love of agriculture. My responsibilities include taking care of my show calves, working cattle, helping with harvesting and planting, and assisting my father with any other needs around the farm. The experiences I have gained through working on my family’s farm will help lead me through the rest of my life.
Over the years agriculture has nearly diminished from the workforce. Why is this happening? In fact, ever since the Industrial Revolution’s promises of “big city success” agriculture has taken a hit. Agriculture has been a foundation for the infrastructure of the United States since it’s creation. Agricultural careers are a necessity for the nation. It is important through the history, from whom it affects, the effects on the environment and people, and to find a solution to the loss of this core element.
The first reason of why agriculture is a better way of life, is because according to document 1 farmers were less violent. Hunters and gatherers on the other hand were in constant state of tribal warfare. This resulted in 25-30% of adult males dying from homicide. Warfare was necessary to keep population density low. This was due to the fact that a certain place only had so much food to support one person. Farmers on the other hand could use a small piece of land and plant crops that could support many people. They do not have to fight over food therefore less war and violence.
From 1880-1906, western farmers were affected by multiple issues that they saw as threats to their way of life. The main threats to the farmers were railroads, trusts, and the government, because these institutions all had the power to drastically affect the ability of the farmers to make profits. Therefore, the farmers were not wrong to feel frustration toward those institutions when the institutions caused the farmers to live lives of increasingly extreme poverty.
The agriculture industry is not only the largest industry within our state, but also within our nation. However, in recent years it has also been one of the most heavily criticized. This has led to a ‘brain drain’ in rural America as more people decide to leave our industry and their family farms.
Many see agriculture as growing food and feeding cows, but to me that is only the picture of it. Agriculture is full of men, women, and children, who have learned and are being taught the principle of hard work. By growing crops and raising animals, I have begun to learn and apply that principle.
The career I would like to pursue would be farming. Farming is not an easy thing to do there are multiple risks you must take. To be a good farmer you must have knowledge of advanced technology and keep up to date with the latest and greatest technology in order to progress and must also have business skills as well as hands on experience on a farm. Farmers salary will never be the same year to year, the market will determine when and how much you get for your product, if there is a surplus of corn form the previous year then the market price will be very low, making your income also low. The median annual income of most farmers and ranchers was about $61,000 in 2010, according to the U.S. bureau of Labor Statistics. The top ten percent of
My entire life I have been on the farm with my dad and grandpa. When I was too little to drive the tractors I would sit and just ride around with them. Now that I am old enough to drive them, I have a lot of experience, and as a farmer working with your family and friends you hire you can take some days off if needed without getting in trouble.
Danielle, I'd like to take the time to thank both you and Dave for taking the time out of your day to interview me over the phone. Thanks to the interview I am even more confident in saying that I feel Monsanto would be a perfect fit for myself. Either Boone or Remington would be an amazing place to work at. If you have any questions or comments about myself please feel free to contact me. Once again I'd just like to say thank you!
The agriculture field is one of the biggest employers, employing over 155 million people in the United States. What do you think about when you hear the word “agriculture?” Many people would say farming, but this is not the most common occupation in this field. Farmers make up a fraction of the agricultural jobs at 900,000, but over 2.1 million people own, rent, and claim farming as a primary source of income. The average farm size has dropped from 460 acres in 1990 to 418 acres in 2007, while the average age of this occupation rose to 57, making this one of the older workforces in the United States.
The career that intrigues me is elementary education, which is kindergarten through 8th grade. I am engrossed in this career because I have little siblings that I had to teach them things like reading, math, and writing properly. Also, I just love, love, love little kids and to watch them grow. My personality goes with this career because I am a very kind and considerate person and I like people. My values go with this career because I like having the defiance and the opportunity to do my work in new ways and with independence and diversity. Also, I like feat which is having the feeling that what I do in my work is crucial and making a contribution. Lastly I value my workplace and having the pleasure of working in a satisfying, attractive work space where the supervisors and co-workers are supportive and friendly. I expect that being a teacher at a school will have all these conditions. Kindergarten and elementary school teachers work in public or private schools. Seeing students develop new skills and learn information can be very rewarding.
