Age Of Discovery Essay

The Age of Exploration made a huge impact on history as we know it. The Age of Exploration started in the 14th century and ended around the late 17th century; when European countries were looking for the three G's : God,gold and glory.The three G’s were reasons for Europeans to explore and discover the world, used in the Age of Discovery. The first G :God- Europeans felt that they had this responsibility to convert non-Christians to Christianity. The second G: Glory for the national honor and pride for discoveries .This helped promote individualism the quality of being individual; served as a motivating factor for explorers to seek fame and glory by conquering far away lands. The last G: Gold drove which helped drive the wealth of European nations which helped with the Commerce Revolution, new trade routes for countries and their direct access to the market.

Did you know that the Age of Exploration was one the most important time in history for the world. The Age of Exploration began in the early 1500’s in the nation of Portugal under leadership of Henry the Navigator. The first expedition to circle the globe was led by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. The causes of the Age of Exploration was to look for new trade routes and spread religion. The effects of the Age of Exploration were slavery and disease.

Between the years 1492 through 1750 a new world was discovered that was before unknown to the eastern hemisphere. New contacts were formed in the Atlantic world due to the discovery and colonization of the Americas and later African slave trade, which were both very major events of this time. These interactions mainly affected Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas, whose economies were broadened and social structures further developed and altered as a result.

*The Age of Exploration saw searches of wealth, new lands, and conversion of christianity. Europeans ed the first globe trading empires and would they would make trips to the western hemisphere.

Over the time of this era we as humans were able to form bonds between different countries through trade. Things such as livestock, crops, and even religion were spread through trade. Missionaries traveled from Europe to the Americas in order to spread the word of Christianity from person to person. Trade spread throughout many large continents such as Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. (Doc 3) This Global trade and it’s effects are still apparent today. Many crops that are known for being popularly grown in certain locations weren’t even originally grown there. Crops such as Irish potatoes are famous for being from Ireland even though they originated in the Americas. (Doc 6) The finding of gold and other treasures was also apparent. This allowed many countries to flourish economy wise and allow them to become more civilized and settled into the countries we know

There were many reasons and causes to the age of exploration beginning. New technology was rising in the field of exploration. Astrolabes are used to show how the sky will looks at a specific place at a given time (Document two). These astrolabes would allow the explorer to navigate easier and would help guide the explorer before better technology. Trade became the economy for many countries. The diagram in document three shows that trade had to go through the Middle East and the quantity would get smaller(Document 3). Gold, God, and Glory is just a small amount of things that caused the Age of Exploration. Gold was a way to describe material gain that were being traded and brought back to the lands that were valuable. Europeans took missionary trips to spread the beliefs of God. The expansion of Christianity caused multiple other religions to convert to European beliefs. The competition to discover land first was present during the Age of Exploration. There was a search for riches among all of the countries on unclaimed lands. The strive for “Glory” introduced the idea of merchantism to the New World. The search for material gain was also a cause of the Age of Exploration. Christopher Columbus was a very important history figure. It was his belief that the world was round and that he could find a new route to the Asian mainland by sailing west. In 1492 he persuaded Queen Isabella to finance his famous expedition, and he set said will 3 majestic ships and 90 courageous men. The most commonly sought after new trade route was to the Spice Islands, which are now the Indonesian archipelago, in southern Asia.

The desire to investigate the obscure has been a main thrust in mankind's history since the beginning of time. Early experiences were roused by religious convictions, a desire for success, the requirement for exchange, and a strive after gold. The Age of Exploration, starting in the late 1400s, was a critical period in the improvement of land yet unknown to the Europeans. Amid this period, many economic consequences impacted the success and failure in which have signified this new era through discoveries. The Age of Exploration with the Columbian Exchange created an economic environment in which European countries could gain wealth through mercantilism. However, as mercantilism allowed some European countries to grow more powerful, capitalism was able to develop at the same time. These two systems share differences, but in the end still allowed European countries to become more politically and economically powerful.

The Age of Exploration started in the 1400s. Explorers set out to find new trade routes to Asia, in order to gain silks and spices, but instead they ended up in America. During this time, rulers wanted to spread their power to these new lands. These rulers sent out priests and armies to other lands in order to convert people to Christianity. The discovery of the New World opened the Europeans to new cultural lenses. The Europeans embodied the curiosity of their times. They were surprised by what they found in the New World. They saw many new places, plants, animals, people, and activities.
