Introduction
According the world health organization, healthy policy is encompassing the decisions, actions and plans that are undertaken in order to achieve particular healthcare goals within a particular society.
One example of policies used in the United States of America currently is the research policy. This policy aims at strengthening health research systems. Researchers who are involved in health fields together with other health services take part in making health care policy and they do so in four main ways. These ways are as following, First they help in identifying the problems or flaws in the current healthcare policies and system (Clancy, Glied & Lurie, 2012). For example, they can identify that nurses there is a shortage of nurses and that is on the rise year

Some of the advantages are helping in prevention of chronic diseases and improving public health. To prevent chronic diseases it fosters expanding quality preventative service both in clinical and community settings, eliminating health disparities and empowering American people to make health choices (Sultz & Young, 2014). ACA has also established six priorities for the public to help in curbing the chronic illnesses. These priorities are; healthy eating as recommended by myplate.gov, reproductive and social health which is part of what ACA promotes, injury and violent free environments both at home and in work environments, preventing drug and excess flu alcohol use and fostering mental and emotional wellbeing (Sultz & Young, 2014). To improve public health ACA focuses on improving the healthcare workforce so that the underserved, low-income, minorities, uninsured and rural populations can get access to healthcare (Sultz & Young, 2014). For example nurses are being trained more to become advanced practice registered nurses like nurse practitioner so that they can independently provide primary care to the
What I currently view as an Economic issue would be the rising costs of Health Care, everyone needs Healthcare, but because of how expensive it is, most of the population cannot afford it. Even if people do have Health Care, they cannot afford paying the high premiums, out of pocket and high deductibles. Health care might not seem like an important topic, but is necessary for the daily lives of people, nobody knows what will happen in the next second of their lives. Everyone needs affordable health care and I think that reducing the cost of health care and making it possible for everyone to afford it would make everyone happy.
The American Health Care system needs to be constantly improved to keep up with the demands of America’s health care system. In order for the American Health Care system to improve policies must be constantly reviewed. Congress still plays a powerful role in public policy making (Morone, Litman, & Robins, 2008). A health care policy is put in place to reach a desired health outcome, which may have a meaningful effect on people. People in position of authority advocates for a new policy for the group they have special interest in helping. The Health care system is formed by the health care policy making process (Abood, 2007). There are public, institutional, and business policies related to health care developed by hospitals, accrediting organizations, or managed care organizations (Abood, 2007). A policy is implemented to improve the health among people in the United States. Some policies
In order to first start a policy process, the problem for which a policy is to be created must be identified and the policy holding a solution to the problem. Researchers and stakeholders will investigate the problem to identify if the policy will reach the policy making agenda. Policies must be to improve society’s health and wellbeing. In the United States (U.S.) public health related issues that require a formulation of a new policy and come from local, state, or federal legislations which ruling govern the provision of health care services and regulations. In this
Rules and policies constantly change over time with all types of industries, companies, and organizations. The results of these changes can affect a drastic number of outcomes or solutions to current issues within those businesses. One type of profession in particular, occupational therapy, is also included in these categories. The impact of not just current policy issues, but the social, economic, political, geographic, and demographic factors can all play a role in occupational therapy. The following paper discusses how the Affordable Care Act is positively affecting clients who are involved with occupational therapy.
Some states have accepted the terms of the program including all of its expansion on the health care system, but some have been reluctant to implement the program. One of those reluctant states has been Florida, which is apparent by multiple court cases that has come since its inception (1). With Florida’s House of Representative consisting of a majority of Republicans, the conservatives of the state have fought the incorporation of the bill (2). With legislative bodies in opposition of the terms of the Affordable Care Act, it begs to question how policy makers have approached the issue of healthcare. My research question was in what ways the Affordable Health Care Act has affected healthcare in Florida, and how effective has it been in
As more provisions of the affordable care act continue to be implemented many find controversy ineffectiveness of the new health plan. On an annual basis the correlation seems to grow more positive on one end, and more negative on the other. Since the start of (2014), the approval percentage of the Affordable Care Act has increased from 10% to 16%, while the percentage saying it has hurt them has also gone up, and by a similar amount, from 19% to 27% (Riffkin, 2014). Overall 41% Americans approve of the affordable care act in comparison to 53% of Americans that disapprove. The complexity of the changes really affects populations differently based on their income levels. The 2010 Affordable Health Care Act passed through congress has
On March 23, 2010, President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Healthcare bill into law. There has been much controversy over this Affordable Healthcare Act before and since it was signed into law. It was estimated that 30 million people would sign up for the new healthcare and that the healthcare industry would need a bigger workforce. Within hospitals across the United States there is already a shortage of nursing and medical staff. What will this new law mean for hospitals in their declining health care professionals? In what other ways will this healthcare law impact hospitals across the United States? This paper will attempt to explore some of the realities and possibilities in greater depth.
Through the years people in the Unites States have struggle with issues dealing with having health coverage. In March 2014 Obama care also known as Affordable Care Act was sign into law making it possible for the lower and middle class to be able to afford health insurance. The affordable care act was in congress from 2009 to 2010.With the act been pass it made it easier for the people to qualify and get help and pay so little with no extra cost. Even thought the insurance is not free it is now affordable for people so now people have a wider range of coverage options. With the affordable care act been pass they are hoping with the affordable screening and preventive services they can be more proactive with people’s healthcare and delay
According the ACA’s official website, the law is meant to provide health security to Americans through health insurance reforms (Medicaid.gov, 2014). It attempts to tackle this lofty goal through a number of changes, including:
With everything the pros and cons have to be weighted. Although I believe that the ACA will be beneficial to rural America there are several factors that need to be discussed on the negative impacts. The ACA will need to work through funding in the form of taxes. These taxes will affect high-earners and employers. The rural American, large farmers and employers will see an increase in taxes. Another downfall of the ACA will be the fact that everyone will be required to obtain health insurance. This limits the freedom of choice. This leads us to the fact that insurance companies are required to insure everyone, even individuals who are sick. It comes down to young people are in less need for insurance that older people. These people will cost more in medical care. This will in return cause the cost of insurance to increase for everyone. The ACA program also has increased insurance premiums simply because they are required to cover a lot more services. Another con for the ACA is that most young people will opt out of coverage and pay the penalty. This does no good to the program as a whole. Small business is affected greatly. The ACA requires that businesses with 50+ full time
The Affordable Care Act A Policy That Promotes Positive Transition In Health Care And Prevents Re-Hospitalization
When the Affordable Care Act(ACA) came to the table, much was promised with the passage of it. Until then, America was a multiple payer system, with ACA the goal was to turn America into a system that provides universal coverage and reduce the uninsured. The Kaiser Family Foundation Tracking Poll found that in 2016 the uninsured rate was at an all-time low, with the non-elderly population dropping from 16% to 10% uninsured. The ACA has a view of not only helping the public health wise but also economically helping the nation. Healthier nation means a healthier economy in the long run. Three of the economic benefits that will be looked at here are as gotten from the Obama Whitehouse website “1) Putting more money in families’ pockets,
2. What are the Patient Protentional Affordable Care Act nine titles? Discuss this in detail?
As a healthcare system which includes 8 acute care hospitals (one being an academic medical center,) 6 urgent care centers and 2 surgery centers, it is crucial that we stay abreast of current policy and changes to policy as they occur, in an effort to stay competitive in the marketplace. This is the most current research as it relates to the development of ACOs in New Jersey and an overview of how this activity may impact our health system. I am providing this to the board of trustees for review.
The theoretical framework that is used in this paper is Collins’s framework, which he describes as a simple tool for policy making (Collins 2005). Collins’s framework is a framework specifically designed for health policies and is an adapted version of Bardach’s policy framework. Bardach proposes eight steps to create a policy; he calls this the ‘eight-fold-path’.
