If you adopt a pet you save lives. Every day nearly 5,500 dogs and cats are killed in Americas shelters because they don't have a place to call home. Finding an animal shelter isn't difficult we have one by Walmart that needs Animals adopted. They have 4 full rooms of cats and 40 dogs waiting to find there forever home. If you adopt a pet instead of buying one from a breeder they are already spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. If you buy from a breeder you would have to get the shots and spay or neuter them and they cost more when you can go to an animal shelter and get a purebred dog or cat for like $50-$250. The are already trained and you can find every size, color, temperament, and breed at the humane society. At the Animal Shelter they work with roughly 1,600 sanctuary animals. 6-8 million dogs and cats enter the shelters annually but nearly half of yen are euthanized. 40 years ago (HSUS) records that Animal Shelters euthanized 12-20 million dogs and cats.
By adopting a pet you help reduce the number of pets killed by euthanasia to zero. Animal shelters have happy, healthy, and affectionate animals waiting for someone to take them home. If you make a good choice you will be

When you adopt a dog they will have to get used to you and there surroundings so they may no sleep well because they don't now where they are at so to get them to sleep better give your dog a few hours to playing and running around outside before putting them to bed so they will sleep and make sure they go to the bathroom before you put them to bed so you won't have to get up in the middle of the night to take them out again. If you adopt an animal and aren't going to be home a lot then you should buying Two or more pets can provide additional companionship for each other. Multiple compatible pets play together and prevent boredom that can lead to behavioral
To be more specific, animals get abused or abandoned every 10 seconds which shouldn't be happening. Overall about 7.6 million animals go into shelters nationwide and out of those only 3-4 million of them get adopted every year. Not only do 2.7 million dogs and cats get killed every year because the shelters get too full and there aren’t enough homes to adopt them but in high kill shelters animals get killed if they aren't adopted in a certain amount of time. Around easter time people buy chicks and rabbits, and often abandon them, not realizing they still need care and they also will dye these animals different colors thinking it will do them no harm but in reality it does. That is why in some states that is illegal. Abandoning animals in many states is a crime. 1 out of every 10 dogs get a home they will always live in which means that most dogs do not get a home that they will always live in and less than 20% of cats and 15-20% of dogs get reunited with their owner after they are lost. Homeless animals outnumber humans 5-1 which are a lot. One way to help animals is by adopting abused or abandoned animals. People can also donate to charities that help abandoned animals. Many animals go to shelters because they get left behind by their owners or they were found on the streets. Most pets that are stray were kept indoors. There are about 70 million stray cats in the united states. Animal Abuse and abandonment are
“Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats” (Pet Statistics). Many animals are rescued and taken to shelters all around the United States. These shelters provide all the resources and take care of the animals until they are well or adopted. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA, is a non-profitable organization that is dedicated to preventing animal cruelty. You should donate money to the ASPCA or even adopt a pet if able to because it provides money to the animals to give them the necessities they need, it supports the animals that have been poorly treated, and it helps get animals out of poor
Every dog is a responsibility, and it takes a kind hearted person to go through the process of adoption. Through shelters it’s about an hour process to adopt. They ask for your current pets (if there is any) vet, the phone number of the vet, every one who lives in the house phone number, so they can call and see if they are okay with having a new furry friend in the house. They give scenarios that could possibly happen with a new puppy in the house for example, what do you do if the puppy is digging in the yard? Or what do you do if the mailman comes to the door and the dog starts barking? The process is long but it is worth it. The shelters even off puppy training classes that’ll teach them household manners, which includes potty training, leash training so that they will be able to go on walks without having to wear a harness. You get so much out of adoption that you don’t get from pet stores that will not offer. With my new adoption I was offered classes for him. Puppy classes, intermediate, therapy dogs, than k9 classes.
One extracurricular activity that is important to me is volunteering at the Skagit Valley Humane Society. I have always enjoyed being around animals so I decided to volunteer. I can help animals that have lost everything and just need someone to love them. While volunteering I walk the dogs, clean cages or whatever the staff needs me to do. The animals love the attention they get and only want to be loved. This experience made me realize that caring for animals is something I enjoy doing.
Every day in the United States, approximately 10,000 people and 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. There will never be enough homes for all of these animals, and as a result millions are killed by animal control or die by themselves every year. If people would adopt their pets from a rescue or shelter, and not buy from pet stores or breeders, many lives would be saved and a lot of misery would be averted. Also, you end up with a great animal.
Imagine walking into an animal shelter, seeing the dogs and cats locked up behind bars wanting to be adopted. At an animal shelter, homeless animals are continuously looking for a home everywhere. An animal shelter in Ohio is CHA animal shelter, they are a nonprofit organization. They provide temporary care and shelter for cats and dogs and try their best to find them a loving home. Also, they provide surgery to spay or neuter the animal, and give the animal it’s required shots. Adding to, they provide an implanted microchip so the owner can track their animal if it is ever lost. CHA animal shelter has also provided a public website to view pictures of the cats and dogs and a brief background on the animal. They also have an option for donations for emergency situations, food, and supply, etc. The fact that they offer donations is remarkable because some individuals do not want to adopt a pet, but want to be apart of promoting adoption and give support to the organization. Not only does the organization try to make the pet’s life the best at the animal shelter, but CHA also hosts events to get people’s interest and gives the animals time out of the cage. I have adopted a dog from an animal shelter and it has been the best decision ever. Knowing I saved animals live brought more joy and love into my life, and nevertheless, he is the best little jack russel ever. Although I could have got a puppy from Petland, the choice of adopting a dog not only saved me money but also allowed me to save his life as well and improve his quality of life. An individual who adopts a pet is rescuing it from neglect and is giving that precise animal a second chance. In conclusion, I believe that CHA animal shelter is the best place to adopt a pet because it is less expensive than buying an animal from a pet store, it decreases puppy mills, and the individual can pick a dog or cat of any age.
The sad reality is that there are too many homeless pets than there ones with loving homes to care for them. Also according to humane society.org, “2.7 million adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized in the United States simply because too many pets come into shelters and too few people consider adoption when looking for a pet.” When you adopt, you not only save a life, but you also free up a cage for another desperate animal to be adopted. By adopting, your money goes towards spay and neutering, pet education, running the shelter, and also puts an end to cruel puppy and kitten mills, which saves countless more animals by doing
Why pay hundreds on buying a dog, then spending a little to adopt one? Thousands of dogs die from puppy mills die each year, while they suffer through the harsh environment that puppy mills give. At the same time, others are waiting to become a new member of the family by adoption. Three main reasons why you should adopt dogs are, you can give them a second chance, stop puppy mills, and you can start the dog out healthy.
Well, luckily, there are shelters in different places that help animals that aren’t able to take care of themselves. Did you know that every year 3.3 million dogs and 3.2 million cats enter animal shelters in U.S.? If you think that figure was huge, now imagine around 1.5 million of them are being euthanized every year because the shelter doesn’t have enough money or volunteers (ASPCA) to take care of them. However, this number can be significantly reduced if we start to make a change. With my speech, I would like to persuade you to from now on look for pets in a shelter instead of a pet store. In order to do this, I will provide information about the differences between shelters and pet stores, reasons to adopt a pet, and how to do it.
Many people buy the pets they want, but there are rarely any human beings that actually adopt. Let me ask you a simple question. Do you usually buy your pets from a breeder, or do you actually go out and search for the one to adopt? Many of you will say buy from a breeder, but that’s okay. Let me just list my facts and you think them over. Maybe I can get your opinion to change.
Thesis: Before you adopt a pet instead of buying one, you must know the Differences between Pet Stores and Shelters, Reasons on why you should adopt, and How to adopt a pet.
According to the Human Society’s website, there are over 2.7 million adoptable cats and dogs that are euthanized each year.
A harmless visit to the neighborhood pet store turns into a ruthless encounter for me. Every Saturday, Pecan (my dog) and I visit a local pet store to purchase food and treats for her. Pecan and I pass by a dozen of shelter volunteers eagerly showcasing homeless dogs before entering the pet store. Shelter volunteers are special because they are willing to devote their Saturday morning to help homeless pets. On the way I stop and great each volunteer and dog, then I walk away emotionally grieving and trying to holding back tears. My sadness soon turns into anger, when I realize I cannot adopt every homeless pet. The pet population is a increasing crisis in America. In this essay I will discuss the cause and effect of homeless
Thesis statement: The reason I ask this is to emphasize the importance of the topic and to introduce why choosing adoption over buying is not only the right, but the most humane decision to make when getting a pet.
For centuries, humankind has enjoyed the unconditional love and companionship of pets. Inclusively, dogs have been stated as “man’s best friends.” By far, pets have become a bigger role in people’s lives. Consequently, pet ownership has turned out to be more popular through the years. Owning a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences, but there is a fact that many individuals may not know. From what kind of places are people obtaining their pets? The two most presumed options are narrowed down to either buying at a pet store or adopting from a shelter. Even though people can get a pet from either option, there are many reasons why adopting is undoubtedly a smarter choice. Animal shelters serve for a bigger purpose, and that is to help the community and its animals. Prospective pet owners should choose pet adoption because of its health, economic, and life benefits.
