Since the Darwinian Revolution of the 19th century our society has turned upside down. Everything under the sun had become questionable, the origin of life, how we came to be, where are we headed and what to do in the here all became questions in life. But one of the greatest impacts of this new age thinking is its effect on our Old World values. Western societies values, morals and ethics became debatable, with some people striving for change and others clinging for stability. Battle lines had been drawn and the Liberals and Conservatives were ready to duke it out on a number of issues. One of these debates centers on a woman?s right to have and abortion. The Oxford Dictionary defines abortion as the expulsion of a fetus, naturally or especially by medical induction, from the womb before it is able to survive independently, especially in the first 28 weeks of a human pregnancy. Today many argue whether abortion should be legal in the United States. Some show religious views while others show civic views. The basis of such a debate should be on medical information. It is evident that abortion is harmful to the mother. Although women feel relief after the operation, they do not perceive at least the physical consequences. The outcome of most abortions is graphic and painful.

Abortion has been a highly debated topic in the United States for many years. Contrary to the belief of some people, life begins at conception when a sperm fertilizes an egg according to Princeton University’s Margerie England. If life begins at conception, abortion should be considered murder. How can society permit the taking of a precious human life without consequences? An astonishing 1.06 million babies were killed in the United States alone in 2011. This major issue must be talked about no matter how uncomfortable it may be. Nearly every American will be affected, almost always negatively, by abortion sometime in their life. Abortion should be illegal and the Roe v. Wade court case should be overturned.

Army lieutenant Nicole Cooley thought she had found the perfect man until she discovered the terrible truth. Cooley had been dating a man for months that was also in the army. She thought she was fine with trusting him and believing everything he said, but she was sadly mistaken. The man she had been dating for months, the man she thought she could trust, had been secretly drugging her the entire relationship. Once she would pass out from the drugs, he would rape her. She eventually realized something was wrong and found out she was pregnant. After long nights of decision-making, Cooley decided that an abortion was the best option for her and her life (Reid, 2013).

One of the most highly controversial issues plaguing our country today is that of abortion. This debate arose in the mid-to-late 1800’s when states began passing laws to make abortion illegal (“History of Abortion”). Although each law varied from state-to-state, the reason for making it illegal seemed to be similar: All surgical procedures, including abortion, were risky and hospitals and well-practiced doctors were not common in most areas. Back-alley abortions (illegal abortions) were very common during this time. Even when the scientific methods and technology became more advanced, women were still getting unsafe abortions. It wasn’t until the Roe v. Wade debate in 1973 that women were able to get a safe, legal abortion from a well-trained medical professional. It also ruled that women had their right to privacy, and it was the women’s right to decide whether or not she would have children. There have been many restrictions and guidelines put on abortion such as parental involvement, mandatory waiting periods, and biased counseling. As of right now, abortion is legal. Abortion should remain legal because of the following issues child-bearing women can potentially face: medical issues, safety concerns, and rape/incest situations.

How would you feel if someone had the final say in whether or not you could live or die? Imagine not having any say in whether or not you are allowed to have a life. Now you can imagine how a baby feels since they do not have a choice in their mother’s womb. If a woman decides to abort her baby, the baby cannot do anything about their life being forcibly taken away from them. Their whole future is demolished in a single instant before it even begins. This is why I believe abortion is wrong no matter the reasoning behind why you’re doing it.

What is Abortion? Well abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy, although it may be done in the third trimester. Third trimester abortion is illegal in many countries. Many things come along with this procedure Psychologically and physically. This is a big choice to make in life. Many people are against abortion, and many are all for it. Personally I am against it, but we are not here to discuss my personal beliefs. Every woman has a choice on what they want to do with their bodies, if abortion is your choice I am not knocking you, a few of my very close friends have had abortions.

Women would be forced to venture out of the states just to acquire a safe abortion. However, for the women who couldn't afford to travel out of the country, they were compelled to have unsafe illegal abortions.
