Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a man of many talents. His greatest talent is that in all of his short stories, he uses this imagery that swallows the reader whole and spits them out into the very reality of his written words. This makes the reader forget to question reality, but to soak the reality up instead. The short stories I have chosen, show how human behavior is impacted through a person’s perception through which their reality is created. Our perceptions can make our fears seem so real, when in reality, fear may not be so real. It shows that people sometimes have nearly impossible expectations of reality as well. Loneliness and isolation are the major topics in which the three stories “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, “Eva is Inside Her Cat”, and “Eyes of a Blue Dog” are based on. Another topic that is mentioned in these stories would be an impossible, unquenchable, or unreachable desire. The story “Eva is Inside Her Cat” shows that Eva’s perception is absorbed with fear, which in turn, is her reality. It shows that Eva keeps running away from her problems, only to confront them all over again, along with new ones. The symbols in this story are the orange, the boy, the arsenic, and Eva’s beauty. In the story “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings”, it explains that when a stereotype is questioned, people become curious. This curiosity can lead to abnormal behaviors, which can result in hostility. This creates a type of paradox. The symbols in this story
