Tovar1 Community Resources for Older Individuals Stephanie Tovar Masters of Social Work, Walden University Course-6210: Human Behavior-Social Environment II Dr. Yonzel Burt October 22,2023

Tovar2 Introduction There are so many resources out there for older adult individuals, and it is important to recognize the gaps in each service. However, there is also importance for social workers to be aware of the services for older adults and become aware of the communities needs. Three Angecies in the Community I identified three agencies in my local community that support individuals in later adulthood. The first agency would be Workforce Development Aging and Community Services. This agency is located in Los Angeles and provides a variety of resources for those individuals in later adulthood. The agency has a program for older and dependent adults offering them resources to meals, meal delivery, caregiving services, transportation,health insurance counseling and legal services. ( LA County WDACS , n.d.)The amount of service offered is incredible and a lot of the services are free which is helpful. However, one gap that I noticed is that there are no mental health services for those older adults. They covered many but mental health services are also essential to an individual who could be going through depression or other mental health issues. As mentioned in the textbook, “the older person is often a lonely person.It is not surprising, then, that depression is the most common emotional problem of older people. It has been called the “common cold” of mental disorders for older persons.” (Zastrow et al. 2019 pg.678) Which is why the additional services that should be added would be mental health services such as therapy, counseling and medication support. The second agency I found is Center for Health Care Rights, this agency provides counseling service for older adults struggling to navigate the medicare paperwork,application and overall process.This is very important as it provides our older adults support and we all
