1 Hiring Mistake Elizabeth Teasley February 20, 2024 POLS 5230 Public Management & Leadership 12.3 Video Case: “Hiring Mistake” Instructor: Dr. Levy Kent Thiry CEO of DaVita, Inc. was dealing with a new hire that was a great asset to the organization but was having issues with other executives due to manipulation and other unprofessional behavior. Kent wanted to address the situation as immediately as possible to get to the root of the problem and ensure everything was addressed so the new hire understood the behavior was being reported by several different people. Kent also not attacking him but getting him to understand that there is a problem and having a coaching session and reviewing data and observation is important to be able to make sure changes are being made understand where he is wrong and get the help that is needed to be able to work with other employees. Also making sure he is keeping other executives up to date on what's going on helps with making sure everyone is doing their part and everyone is responsible for their actions.
2 Hiring Mistake 1. What might be the consequences if Kent did not handle this situation immediately? If Kent had not overseen the situation immediately some of the consequences would have been having other executives walk away from the organization, it would have also made the work environment hostile due to all the negative manipulation and the employer would also understand that this type of behavior is not tolerated. 2. What do you think about the way Kent conducted the coaching session and the data or observations upon which it was based? I think Kent managed the coaching session great because he was able to explain the pattern of behavior and the way he was conducting himself was not in a manurable way. He was also finding the root of the cause of the issue and having everyone on the same page with the changes that needed to be made.
