You will have to do some research to answer the following questions. You MUST provide a resource/website for each answer. Each Question is worth 5 points(55 points total). If you do not provide a source proving that you’ve done the research, you will not get credit for the answer. You may use your textbook as a source. Please put the title of the book as your source. Topic 1: In Fascist countries, individuals gave up their freedom because they thought that would give the government enough power to fix the country's problems. If people in your country were starving would you be willing to give up some of your Freedom? In extreme circumstances, such as widespread starvation, individuals may consider giving up certain liberties in order to handle the crisis, but the decision would be highly subjective and disputed, reflecting a complex interaction of societal values and beliefs. Topic 2: Would you rather fight in the Pacific Theater or the European Theater of WWII? Why? I'd rather fight in the Pacific Theater since it seemed less stressful. Personal preferences for WWII fighting theaters vary, with some individuals considering the Pacific Theater less stressful because of its perceived distance from home and distinct battle environment. Topic 3: After the Battle of Britain Winston Churchill said, "Never was so much owed by so many to so few." Do you agree with this quote? Why or why not? Yes, the remark expresses great thanks to the RAF pilots whose bravery and sacrifice played a critical role in defending Britain during the Battle of Britain. Topic 4: Harry Truman warned Japan to "surrender or face prompt and utter destruction" before deciding to use the atomic bomb to destroy Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. If you were the President would you have 1. used the atomic bomb or 2. invaded Japan? I would have followed the steps of President Truman and used the Atomic bomb because the estimated death toll was lower than that of the invasion. Topic 5: ● The United States doubled the combined production of the Axis Powers. ● The Soviet Union defeated Germany at Stalingrad. ● Great Britain was the only country that fought against the Nazis from the beginning to the end of the war. ● China fought against Japan for even longer (since 1931). Which country was most responsible for the defeat of the Axis Powers during WWII? The defeat of the Axis Powers during WWII was a collaborative effort, and it is difficult to single out one country as being solely responsible, as each, including the United States, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and China, made substantial contributions in their own right. Topic 6: Japanese spies made the attack on Pearl Harbor more successful. Do you support FDR's decision to force Japanese Americans into internment camps? Why or why not? Despite fears of espionage and sabotage, FDR's decision to force Japanese Americans into internment camps during World War II was a breach of civil liberties and human rights. Topic 7: "The key to the Civil Rights movement was the Tuskegee Airmen. Our aim was to convince white people that if we could do the job as well as, or better than they, they couldn't be prejudiced..." -Captain

How would you compare the Tuskegee Airmen to the Harlem Hellfighters of World War I? Explain. While the Tuskegee Airmen's excellent combat performance during World War II helped to challenge racial preconceptions, it's vital to remember that the Civil Rights movement was a far broader struggle involving many different people and events. The Tuskegee Airmen and the Harlem Hellfighters of World War I share similarities in how they fought military discrimination and exhibited bravery, but they served in distinct roles and situations during their respective wars. Finally, both groups contributed to the struggle against racial inequity and paved the path for expanded civil rights in the United States. Topic 8: Should Great Britain have surrendered during the Battle of Britain? Was the cost too High? Why or Why not? Great Britain should not have surrendered during the Battle of Britain because doing so would have resulted in disastrous outcomes and allowed the Nazis to prevail. The sacrifices made during the conflict were worthwhile to escape the repercussions of surrender. Topic 9: Should the Allies have invited Stalin to the Atlantic Charter meeting in December 1941? Explain. Inviting Stalin to the Atlantic Charter meeting in December 1941 could have improved the Allies' cooperation against the Axis forces, especially since the Soviet Union was fighting hard against Nazi Germany. However, it could have posed complications because Stalin's beliefs and ambitions differed from those of the Western Allies. Topic 10: Would you rather be a stay at home mom, or work in a factory during WWII? Explain. I'd rather work in a factory since it was one of the first steps toward women’s freedom and independence in the United States, and I'd love to be a part of it.
