Study 1 (5 marks) Title: Conscious eaters: the role of dietary motivation and self-determination in identity and sense of self Ethical Value and Principle: Research merit and integrity Report (click in the box and type, the box will expand as you type): Participation in this study involved an online questionnaire where participants were asked several questions examining dietary motivation and investigate the outcomes of certain motivation types on dietarian identity profiles. The questions were asked in a clear, brief, and distinct manner. This study presents to address the ethical value and principle of research merit and integrity by the study being developed using methods appropriate for achieving the aims of the proposal (1.1b) and an example of this is where the researchers have used clear and distinct questions investigating the research topic. Another example of how the study appeared to address the ethical value and principle of research merit and integrity was the questioner being anonymous to ensure the respect of the participants was not compromised by the aims of the study(1.1d). Lastly the study appeared to be conducted with integrity by the researchers asking for participants to answer questions based on their own knowledge and understanding from own life experiences, the study aims aline with the ethical value and principle of research merit and integrity as the researchers outlined that the aim of the study was to gain knowledge and understanding to examine dietary motivation and investigate the outcomes of certain motivation types on dietarian identity profiles (1.3a). Study 2 (5 marks) Title: Disordered Eating, Gastrointestinal Symptoms, Thinking Patterns and Psychological Distress Ethical Value and Principle: Justice Report (click in the box and type, the box will expand as you type): My Participation in this study involved an online questionnaire to identify psychological mechanisms associated with disordered eating behaviours. Again, the questions were asked in a clear, brief, and distinct manner. This study presents to address the ethical value and principle of Justice by the following; the researchers made sure the study had no prior requirments apart from having to access the questionnaire online, this is an example of the researchers obeying by the eithical value and principle of Justice as there was no exclusion based on a participants gender, religion or race(1.4a). The researchers had a fair process of recruiting participants which it was open to everyone 18yrs and older (1.4b), the study involved participants answering an questionnaire but their answers remained anonymous so there was no exploitation of the participants in the conduct of the research(1.4e). Study 3 (5 marks) Title: Experiences and predictors of incontinence anxiety Ethical Value and Principle: Beneficence Report (click in the box and type, the box will expand as you type): Participation in this study involved an online questionnaire where participants were asked to answer several questions to help understand the thinking styles that individuals engage in may contribute to continence anxiety. The questions were asked in a clear, brief, and distinct manner. This study presents to address the ethical value and principle of Beneficence by the following; the benefit of the study as stated by the researchers; to help identify psychological processes and how mental health professionals can better support individuals in the wider community with incontinence anxiety (1.6). The researchers provided participants with a list of supports services to use if participants experienced incontinence and/or anxiety relating to incontinence, as well as if participants felt concerned about any of their answers to the questionnaire and how it relates to their own physical and/or mental health, this appeared to cover the ethical value and principle of Beneficence (1.7a, 1.7b and 1.7c). Lastly researchers outlined that all data would be used to help understand the research aims, highlighting the benefit of the research(1.6). Study 4 (5 marks) Title: Predictors of problematic smartphone use and accidents Ethical Value and Principle: Respect Report (click in the box and type, the box will expand as you type): My Participation in this study involved an online questionnaire to gather research to explore the cognitive process that may facilitate problematic smartphone use and it’s impact on mental health. The questions were asked in a clear, brief, and distinct manner. This study presents to address the ethical value and principle of Respect by the following: The researchers stated that all data collected will be anonymous, confidential and cannot be traced back to participants. They also stated who will have access to the data collected, how it will be stored, duration of storage and how it will be destroyed (1.11), secondly, the aim of the study was clearly stated and what the study involves. The researchers also made it known that participants had the right to exercise control over their decision to take part in the study (1.12). Lastly, participants were asked to give consent before starting the questionnaire encouraging participants to make their own decisions (1.12). Lastly, paricipants were provided with a number of different support services to contact if participating in the study raised any concerns for participants, relating back to the eithical value and principle of respect, assisting participants in feeling empowered where possible(1.13). 4 | P a g e
