Lab 2 Homework Assignment Explaining the Neural Impulse Activity Think about the neural impulse activity and answer the following questions in a typed, double- spaced paragraph. State the hypothesis of the experiment - By increasing the distance that a neural impulse must travel, the time it takes to make a response increases Describe what was done in the experiment. Describe both conditions. The experiment starts off with a random group of participants holding hands. When the timer starts the dedicated first person will squeeze the hand of the second person and from there continue a chain sequence. Once one participant feels their hand squeezed the they will only then squeeze the next persons hand. Once all participants have been through, the last person will yell out “stop” indicating when the timer will be turned off. This same experiment will be don’t in total of three times recording each time it takes. Then the entire experiment will be repeated but instead of squeezing hands it will be touching shoulders. Since the brain is closer to the shoulder the response signals has a “head start” compared to the hand. Provide the results of the experiment. State the average response time for each condition. Was the hypothesis supported? Explain your answer. NOTE: Do not use the terms “prove” or “caused.” The results “support” or “don’t support” the hypothesis.
Are there any concerns about how the experiment was conducted? Assignment 2B Designing an Experiment Does using colored paper improve learning or academic performance? While some researchers have suggested that the color of the paper can improve test scores, others disagree. One teacher suggested yellow paper helps students perform better on math exams. As a scientist, you need to evaluate the validity of this claim. Design an experiment to investigate whether colored paper, rather than plain old white paper, can improve learning and performance. Explain the following parts of the experiments in a typed, double-spaced paragraph: Operationally defined IV Operationally defined DV Experimental and control groups Participants - Who? How will they be selected? In your answer, be sure to address the issue of random assignment Procedure BOTH Parts 2A and 2B are required to complete this assignment. Submit your final assignment thought the Lab 2 Homework link in Canvas by the deadline.
