Frithiof (pron. Frit-yoff)
means “peace-maker.” In the Icelandic myths he married Ingëborg (In-ge-boy’-e), the daughter of a petty king of Norway, and widow of Hring, to whose dominions he succeeded. His adventures are recorded in the Saga which bears his name, and which was written at the close of the thirteenth century.
