(b. Plymouth, 1793; d. Florence, December 23rd, 1865). “Materials for a History of Oil Painting” (1847); “Contributions to the Literature of the Fine Arts” (1848). He also edited Kugler’s “Handbook of Painting” (1843), and translated Goethe’s “Theory of Colours” (1840).
