Tenison, Bishop of Lincoln, says the author was Dr. Chaplin, of University College, Oxford. (Evelyn: Diary.)   1
   Thomas Hearne ascribes the authorship to Archbishop Sancroft.   2
   Some think Dr. Hawkins, who wrote the introduction, was the author.   3
   The following names have also been suggested:—Lady Packington (assisted by Dr. Fell), Archbishop Sterne, Archbishop Woodhead, William Fulham, Archbishop Frewen (President of Magdalen College, Oxford), and others.   4
