| ATTRIBUTION: | Hokeky Sho, a Buddhist Sanskrit text. From Kojikotowaza Jiten (Dictionary of Tradition and Proverbs). Several commentators in the 1500s wrote about this; however, the earliest commentary was around the 12th century. The translation is literally: “Man drinks wine. Wine drinks wine. Wine drinks man.” |
