ATTRIBUTION: LEWIS L. STRAUSS, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, speech at the 20th anniversary of the National Association of Science Writers, New York City, September 16, 1954, as reported by The New York Times, September 17, 1954, p. 5. The Times said he “predicted … that industry would have electrical power from atomic furnaces in five to fifteen years.”

For controversy over whether this implied nuclear power or fusion power, Atomic Industrial Forum, Inc., issued a four-page Special Report, May 1980.
