The popularity in America of this grape and particularly of the wines made from it, together with the prestige attached to knowing about wines and the pronunciations of their names, has led Americans to do their best with the French, which usually comes out KAB-uhr-NAI SO-vee-NYAWNG (or, where the French nasal is unheard, -NYAWN), with the primary stress on the final syllable.  1
