appreciate (v.)

The third syllable is pronounced like either the pronoun she or the noun sea. I don’t appreciate her interference means “I don’t like it; I resent it.” I have learned to appreciate Mozart means “I have learned to understand or enjoy or admire Mozart.” Both uses are Standard, but the negative is usually appropriate only in Conversational contexts.  1
