INFINITIVE 1

This is the base form of a verb in English; usually it has the same form as the first person singular present tense of the verb (e.g., jog, walk, believe), and it is frequently used with and marked by the function word to. The to-plus-infinitive locution can also function as a noun, as in I like to jog. See also SPLIT INFINITIVE; TRY AND.  1
