gynecology, gynaecology (n.)
These are Standard variant spellings of the branch of medicine that deals with female reproductive matters and diseases. The more common American spelling is gynecology, the more usual British spelling, gynaecology. Pronounce it GEI-nuh-KAHL-uh-jee, although JIN-uh-KAHL-uh-jee and JEI-nuh-KAHL-uh-jee are also considered Standard. See DIGRAPHS; SPELLING (1).
