can combine with the prepositions for or of or with to plus an infinitive: Her birthday was the occasion for a great celebration. The occasion of their anniversary was also the Fourth of July. We took this occasion to inquire about his mother. Spell occasion with two c’s but only one s. See CONSONANTS (2).  1
