| Although dialect and dialectics sprang from the same root, their modern English meanings are very different. To refer to dialect, both dialectal and dialectical are used as adjectives in Standard English, but language experts usually try to reserve dialectal for language matters and to use dialectical only for referring to dialectics, the practice in philosophy of using argument to dismantle an opponents position and so win a contest of ideas. | 1 |
