Antarctic (adj., n.), Antarctica (n.)

The Antarctic is another name for the ice-covered southernmost continent, Antarctica, and for the area in which it lies. Many Standard speakers object to the pronunciation ant-AHR-tik instead of ant-AHRK-tik, but it appears to be acceptable to other Standard speakers. See also ARCTIC.  1
