hom-, homo- (prefixes)

The Greek prefix means “the same or similar,” and English uses it in dozens of words, such as homophone, homograph, homonym, and homosexual. The Latin word meaning “man” is also used as the first element in English compounds, such as hominoid and hominid, but the Greek prefix has provided many more English words than the Latin one has.  1
